The [program_tooltip program_id='712700' first='Minnesota' last='Suns'] Spring Showcase is a great early-season AAU tournament – a chance for teams to work out the kinks, for new players and coaches to get acquainted, and simply to get back in the gym. I took this opportunity to focus primarily on a few new faces wearing Suns uniforms and, honestly, just to show some love to one of the AAU programs in MInnesota that continues to do things the right way.

One word to describe Frank's game: tough. I watched her on Saturday at the Spring Showcase, and she consistently put her body on the line – doing whatever her Stars team needed in the moment. Whether it was diving for loose balls or absorbing contact, Frank never shied away from the physical side of the game. She put constant pressure on the defense with her dribble penetration and knocked down shots at a steady clip. Even when she turned the ball over, her toughness showed up again – refusing to rest until she was back in the play, creating chaos for the opposing team. What stood out just as much was her “next play” mentality. In a sport where hesitation can cost you, her ability to move on quickly and stay aggressive is a major asset. The level of grit she plays with can't be taught, and every team has room for a player like Frank.

Amelia Martin, 2027 guard, [program_tooltip program_id='712700' first='Minnesota' last='Suns'] 2027 Bluestar

There are many other ways to affect a basketball game outside of scoring from the guard position, and Martin checks just about all of those boxes. The Concordia Academy floor general possesses everything a good point guard should; strong ball handling, court vision, communication, and the ability to make quick decisions. In a tightly contested game against the [program_tooltip program_id='714566' first='Minnesota' last='Stars'] that went down to the wire, Martin was a key cog in the wheel doing a great of communicating on both sides of the ball while chipping in 7 points to help secure a 46-43 victory.

[player_tooltip player_id='1255487' first='Elise' last='McMillen'], 2027 wing, [program_tooltip program_id='712700' first='Minnesota' last='Suns'] S40

The lengthy wing from Minneapolis Southwest is set to make a significant impact this AAU season. Standing at 5'10", McMillen utilizes her impressive size and long arms to effectively battle in the paint, securing offensive rebounds that lead to put-backs and second-chance opportunities for her team. While facing a tough Stars team, showcasing her range, she knocked down two crucial three-pointers, contributing to her squad's narrow 43-41 victory. With her strong performance, McMillen is primed for a breakout AAU season, and it'll be fun to watch her game grow over the summer.

[player_tooltip player_id='764218' first='Neema' last='Simbeye'], 2027 post, [program_tooltip program_id='712700' first='Minnesota' last='Suns'] 2027 S40

Simbeye (pictured above) delivered an impressive performance during all three games we watched on Saturday, with each game showcasing a different facet of her skills. In two of the matches, she scored in double figures while effectively carving out space in the paint to secure every rebound that came her way. With her quick feet and soft hands, Simbeye excelled at maneuvering within the paint, finishing strong at the rim and consistently getting to the free throw line. While post players are often not known for their efficiency from the charity stripe, Simbeye is breaking that mold. Although I don't have official statistics, I would estimate she shot over 80% from the free throw line. Simbeye has made remarkable strides in her development, and she is poised to make a significant impact in the months to come.

Teagan Robertson, 2028 guard, [program_tooltip program_id='712700' first='Minnesota' last='Suns'] 2028

Robertson was a joy to watch during the Showcase, showcasing her dynamic game. Defensively, she really gets after it, bringing unmatched energy and physicality to the court. As a coach, there's nothing better than not having to “coach” effort and attitude, and with Robertson, that effort is a given. Offensively, she plays at a fast pace while remaining under control, displaying creativity as she maneuvers into the lane for impressive finishes at the basket. With her strong skill set and competitive spirit, keep an eye out for this rising star.

OTHER PLAYERS WHO MADE AN IMPACT

Aniy'rah Gorman, 2028 guard, [program_tooltip program_id='712700' first='Minnesota' last='Suns'] 2027 S40

Gorman's first step and ability to break down defenses are truly impressive. She is one of the fastest players we've seen with the ball in her hands, demonstrating remarkable speed and agility that keep defenders on their toes. Her quickness allows her to create opportunities for herself and her teammates, making her a constant threat on the court.

Abby Pearson, 2028 guard, [program_tooltip program_id='712700' first='Minnesota' last='Suns'] 2028 Black

Pearson is an excellent shooter with impressive form, consistently demonstrating that she is always shot-ready. Her shooting ability extends to both three-point and mid-range shots, making her a versatile threat on the court. Whether in transition or set plays, her skill set allows her to find good looks and convert efficiently.

Toni Ogunleye, 2027 guard, [program_tooltip program_id='712700' first='Minnesota' last='Suns'] 2027 Blue Star

During the Showcase, Ogunleye brought instant energy off the bench, making a significant impact on the games. Her disruptive defensive play consistently put pressure on opponents, creating turnovers and opportunities for her team. Despite her high energy level, she remained poised and under control, not allowing the chaos of the games to speed her up.
