Impressive Talent at Indy Team Camp

Don't get me wrong, some teams are just starting up, but you can tell which kids have been playing travel ball and those who haven't. They just seemed to be more aggressive and got going faster than others. During this time, coaches are always evaluating and seeing what they have. Consider myself impressed with the talent that was out there competing on the first day of team camp at Indy.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>As you all know, clubs across the state were in action at various locations. It's an exciting time as teams get solid matchups that they may not normally see during the regular season. IHS staff did a great job putting teams against one another. Girls looked solid, no one was dodging the smoke. AK is a solid floor general who commanded the offense for FCS. She was able to get to spots that enabled her to shoot or shot or kick to open teammates. She displayed poise with the basketball, as other opponents tried to rattle her. I was impressed with her “can-do” attitude, as she was always in the mix, especially when it came to hustle plays. She plays hard, giving it her all on every possession. She was able to get multiple paint touches as she took her girl off the dribble. She was clutch from the 3, shooting it with confidence as her number was called on to knock it down. Her game has improved over the years, and you can tell she is about to have a breakthrough year. She can score from the mid-range, low blocks, and occasionally stretch the floor. There were multiple times where she cleaned up shot attempts and put it back up to draw the whistle. Riley, too, was solid on the defensive end, shutting down her opponent and really making them work. This kid is a solid talent, and her game keeps growing. This kid is someone to keep tabs on. She is going to be a big factor for this program as she anchors down the low-post areas. Doesn't matter if she is on the defensive end or offense; she is someone you have to account for. She plays with a motor and runs the floor great. Multiple times, her teammates found her flying down the floor and threw it over the top for an easy lay. She was big on the boards, didn't matter what end, she did her job and went after it, grabbing it with two hands. I was very impressed with her ability to create mismatches and finish through contact. Look for her to be a force for Portland this upcoming season. She is a heady PG who can run the offense efficiently. She can make timely passes, set up a play, but given the go-ahead, she can take someone off the dribble and finish. She can shoot from multiple spots on the floor, which is a plus as people tend to help out on the bigs, giving her ample amount of opportunities to knock it down from deep. She is a solid defender, picking up full, making her opponent work as they bring the ball up the floor. Her game is still growing, however, this kid is fun to watch as she competes until there is nothing left.<br><br></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block -->
