Earlier in the week we covered a handful of new prospects we liked from the younger division at AAU All-Star Sunday, a new showcase-style event featuring standout AAU players from around the state. (You can read it here) Later in the evening at Eden Prairie High School, we found another group of players to spotlight, both familiar faces and new names included in the bunch. Here is a look at those prospects.

NEW NAMES TO WATCH

Preslie Hunter – 2029 Wing, Waconia

With tremendous length and plenty of athleticism to go along with it, the 925 Basketball Academy wing was one of the most intriguing young prospects at Sunday's All-Star event. Hunter first caught our attention due to her height (we're guessing somewhere around 5'10). What we noticed next were Hunter's outstanding instincts. Preslie has a knack for positioning around the basket and rebounding the ball, understands how to space the floor, and consistently creates off-ball movement on offense. With the ability to read the defense, combined with her remarkably long strides, the Waconia 8th grader also has no trouble getting downhill to the basket. With a year of varsity basketball under her belt already, Hunter is a prospect whose game we will be keeping an eye on.

[player_tooltip player_id='1246844' first='Nikki' last='Gustafson'] – 2029 Guard, Wayzata

Representing [program_tooltip program_id='712665' first='Metro' last='Stars'] at the All-Star Sunday event, Gustafson showed her creativity on the offensive end, as well as her innate three-level scoring ability. With plenty of length to her stride and a bounce in her step, the Wayzata 8th grader possesses a high degree of athleticism that helps her blow by and elevate over most defenders. Add in skilled ball handling and a keen ability to read and react to the defense, and Nikki's offensive abilities become a cut above the rest. She's efficient at the rim, can easily knock down shots from beyond the arc, and specializes in the long-range step-back. In addition to all these attributes, the young combo guard brings a fearless, tough, and ultra-competitive attitude every time she steps on the floor.

VETERANS WHO STOOD OUT

[player_tooltip player_id='644103' first='Lauryn' last='Stolzenberg'] – 2027 Guard, Lake City

We last wrote about the Lake City guard in the fall when we added her to the Prep Girls Hoops Class of 2027 prospect rankings following her standout performance at our Sophomore ID Showcase. There Stolzenberg (banner photo) wowed us with her physicality, strength, tremendous work ethic, and strong natural instincts. Since then, several areas of Lauryn's game have improved. The [program_tooltip program_id='712362' first='Legacy' last='Hoops'] athlete has fine-tuned her ball handling, honed a more efficient shot, and developed an even stronger basketball IQ. On Sunday, Lauryn played with her usual physical, take-no-prisoners style that we're used to, but the improvements to her overall skillset allowed her to really shine. She's ranked #102 among the 2027s.

[player_tooltip player_id='675971' first='Trinity' last='Baker'] – 2027 Guard, Underwood

One of the premier point guards in Minnesota's Class of 2027, it's no surprise that Baker (pictured above) showed out on Sunday. Representing the [program_tooltip program_id='767539' first='Minnesota' last='Comets'] at the All-Star event, the 5'5 sophomore demonstrated her speed, craftiness with the ball, and determination on the offensive end, using all three to attack the basket and score at the rim. As those familiar with the Underwood sophomore's game also know, Trinity can also get hot from three just as easily. On the defensive end, the 63rd-rated sophomore in the state showed off her scrappy, high-energy style of play by forcing turnovers and fighting for every extra possession she could get for her team.
