The Section 7 girls weekend was full of great talent from across the country. The event was held in Mesa, Arizona for the first time after previously being held at Cardinals Stadium in Glendale. Here are some of the top scorers from Southern Arizona I had the opportunity to see here in Mesa, AZ.

Barajas was one of the most consistent scorers I saw during Section 7. Against Cedar Valley she came out hot in the second half putting up 14 points including 2 college level three pointers. In her game against Chino (CA) she was 3/4 from the three, which was also college level threes. She ended her weekend scoring 28 points against Copper Hills (UT). Barajas not only is capable of hitting beyond the arc but she'll get physical in the paint and scores very well through contact. She has the mental and physical toughness to do well in any setting.

Hampton is really strong in the post and can create a mismatch and score fairly easy. She draws fouls pretty well and has shown to be a great free throw shooter. What makes her dangerous is her ability to space the floor with how well she can shoot the three ball. Entering her sophomore year the sky is the limit for Hampton. Every time I see her she is only getting better. Hampton will be a highly sought after prospect.

Kayanna might have been the most consistent three point scorer I during the Section 7 Girls Weekend. She shoots the ball with confidence and she shows you why. She has the ability to lose defenders and finds herself knocking down the open look. Can also rebound the ball very well and make opponents pay with second chance points. Played strong in the post and able to get to her spots and score. Chief plays the game at high level on both sides of the ball.

Very impressed with the way Njoroge handles the ball. She's patient and as soon as she sees what she wants she blows by her defenders and quickly scores. She has a lethal first step. She's a very capable shooter from behind the arc, but fills the stat sheet up with her mid-range game and rim attacks. She's a high energy player and her IQ for the game really got my attention. An under the radar player who i expect to start making a name for herself this upcoming season.

Contreras was a fun player to watch. She seemed like more of a "utility" player at first. Then she found her rhythm and could not be stopped. She hit a quick mid range off the pass then came down and hit a three ball off the dribble. She went 2/2 from deep and 8/12 from the field. Finishing with a game high 18 points. Very energetic and very vocal.
