Last weekend, in Appleton, we had our third PGH Freshman Showcase. I enjoy seeing the new faces of high school basketball before the season, and plenty of players at the event will make their mark on the high school season this winter. Today, we're discussing all the players from Team Two of the 5v5 portion of the event and highlighting what they brought to the floor. We'll keep this up until we wrap up all ten 5v5 teams that played at the Freshman Showcase.

Reese Linsmeier

Linsmeier is a player who played with confidence in a situation where most kids will take some time to find their footing. She was aggressive when she had opportunities to be aggressive when the ball was in her hands. She also didn't hold onto the ball too long, giving her team some fluidity on the offensive end. I also thought she showed some toughness around the basket.

[player_tooltip player_id='888351' first='Katie' last='Pelli']

Some things tend to get lost in showcase settings. Players who know how to fit their roles are valuable to winning. Pelli is a player who spaced the floor and gave her teammates space to do what they wanted with the ball in their hands. She may not have had the ball in her hands as much as others on her team, but her attitude and approach are something that coaches will appreciate when she gets in the gym.

[player_tooltip player_id='1260892' first='Violet' last='Schultz']

Schultz displayed her athleticism on both ends of the floor and wanted to get out and run in transition. She is a player who brings effort on both ends of the floor. There is an edge to her game that I appreciate. She doesn't take anything for granted and will help her team earn hidden points throughout games by earning extra possessions that people may not recognize. I also thought she turned the corner well and attacked the basket when she wanted to put pressure on the basket.

[player_tooltip player_id='1231777' first='Talyia' last='Galvez-Hanson']

Galvez-Hanson is a physical frontcourt player who set a tone around the basket when she was on the floor. I thought she rebounded well on both ends of the floor and threw some solid outlet passes to get her guards the ball. I thought she also had some solid footwork around the basket that helped her create space to pass or shoot. The major thing her coaches will like about her is that she's a willing screener who can help her guards create numerical advantages in their screen-and-roll game.
