Last weekend, in Appleton, we had our third PGH Freshman Showcase. I enjoy seeing the new faces of high school basketball before the season, and plenty of players at the event will make their mark on the high school season this winter. Today, we're discussing all the players from Team One of the 5v5 portion of the event and highlighting what they brought to the floor. We'll keep this up until we wrap up all ten 5v5 teams that played at the Freshman Showcase.

[player_tooltip player_id='875044' first='Ellie' last='Gosa']

I was impressed by how well Gosa defended on the perimeter. She did a solid job of keeping her assignment in front of her and being a competitor on that end of the floor. Gosa was also a versatile offensive threat. She handled the ball well, attacked off the dribble, and proved she can knock down shots on the perimeter.

[player_tooltip player_id='1221076' first='Ava' last='McCarthy']

McCarthy is an unselfish player on the perimeter. She was a willing passer who didn't hold onto the ball too long. She spaced the floor well and showed her ability to shoot from the perimeter. I also liked how well she moved the ball up the floor in their transition offense. She can help an offense at the high school level.

[player_tooltip player_id='939071' first='Tate' last='Huppert']

I loved the defensive concentration on the floor. She won't be a player that offenses can take advantage of by cutting behind her. Huppert is also willing to dig in and rebound on both ends of the floor. She was also a confident shooter who didn't hesitate to shoot when she had space. Huppert is a player who does all the little things that will help any team she plays on to win games on the margins and be a valuable player to have on the floor.

Demi Holman

The Minnesota native swung by the Fox Valley for the Freshman Showcase, and she played well hundreds of miles away from home. She is a lengthy wing who can knock down shots from the perimeter and uses that length to make plays on the defensive end of the floor in the 3v3 and 5v5 portions of the event. I was also impressed with how well Holman moved away from the ball to find open pockets to get her shot off. She is a talented player and has room to grow. She is a smart off-ball player who will keep defenses' attention whenever she's on the floor.
