With less than two months until high school tryouts, let's take a look at our defending Sectional Champs from the North and where they stand entering the 2025-26 season. These are your Non-Public Sectional Champs from the 2024-25 season.

Non-Public A - Morris Catholic

Morris Catholic enters this season bringing with them a 32 game winning streak and 3 straight State Championships (2 in Non-Public B and last year in Non-Public A). What they will not be bringing with them are three of last year's seniors who haved moved on to D1 basketball. NJ Player of the Year Mia Pauldo and 1st team All-State twin sister Mya Pauldo are now at Tennessee and Daniela Matus is at Loyola Chicago. They take with them a lot of production. Morris Catholic loses 61% of their 3-point scoring, 56% of their points, 25% of their rebounding, 65% of their assists, 12% of their blocks and 50% of their steals. However, the cupboard is not bare at Morris Catholic. They added UPenn commit, senior [player_tooltip player_id='559076' first='Jayah' last='Curtis'] from Montclair Immaculate who led her team to the Non-Public B State Championship last year averaging 10+ppg, 2+3-pointers, 4+rpg and 1+spg last year. Curtis will join the following returning major contributors from last year's team. Those players are junior [player_tooltip player_id='676823' first='Anastasia' last='Bonfante'] (5th in 3-pointers last year and 5th in assists), senior Manhattan commit [player_tooltip player_id='601266' first='Kennedy' last='Brown'] (5th in scoring, 4th in rebounding, 3rd in assists and 2nd in steals), [player_tooltip player_id='667787' first='Jacqueline' last='Edelman'] (2nd in 3-pointers, 3rd in scoring, 2nd in rebounding, 4th in assists, 2nd in blocks and 4th in steals), junior [player_tooltip player_id='789169' first='Morgan' last='Fulston'] (1st in rebounding and 1st in blocks), and junior [player_tooltip player_id='1157963' first='Ashley' last='LaBeach'] (3rd in rebounding and tied for 3rd in blocks). The talent pool is deep enough for another sectional title, but Pope John, IHA and a young and very talented DePaul team will be nipping at their heels.

Non-Public B - Gil St. Bernard's*

Yes there is an asterisk here. Gil St. Bernard's entered the North Non-Public B sectional as the #1 seed and the clear favorite, but fell flat in the championship to #2 Montclair Immaculate. We will highlight Gil here because Montclair Immaculate had to close it's doors after the 2024-25 school year. Gil lost 5 seniors from last year's 23-5 team and all have moved on to college basketball. 1st team All-State Gandy Malou-Mamel is at UConn, Sidney Quinn is at Navy, Tessa Lozner is at Tufts, Maya Abramson is at Stevens and Cassidy Moore is at Millersville. Those 5 departures made up for 69% of their 3-point scoring, 69% of their points, 69% of their rebounding, 60% of their assists, 70% of their blocks and 54% of their steals. Gil will have to revamp how they play this year after two years spent funneling almost all of what they do towards Gandy Malou-Mamel on offense and defense. A lot will fall on the shoulders of senior St. Joe's commit [player_tooltip player_id='559820' first='Addy' last='Platt'] (4th in 3-pointers last year, 2nd in scoring, 4th in rebounding, tied for 2nd in assists, 2nd in blocks and 1st in steals). Role players from last year who will have to step up include junior [player_tooltip player_id='651498' first='Melina' last='Miller'] (4th in assists), junior [player_tooltip player_id='651485' first='Kaitlyn' last='Platt'] (5th in rebounds), junior [player_tooltip player_id='900483' first='Sadie' last='Finn'], junior [player_tooltip player_id='835193' first='Brooke' last='Shaw'] and sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1047234' first='Nadia' last='Mikalainis']. In a watered down North Non-Public B, Gil is the clear favorite over Hudson Catholic and Saddle River Day.
