Mid-South Jamboree: Houston

Coach Kevin Caraway's career has begun as Houston's Head Coach. What I learned about Houston: They are going to bring the defensive heat. Offensively, they have great ball movement and everybody touches the ball.

Stretch Post. I often talk about Shania's ability to stretch the floor to attack or to pass. Today, she showed me that she will also be stretching the floor and shooting. She took a couple of shots off the block including a 3 pointer.

Quick & Athletic Defensive Guard

Scoring Guard. During the Fall League, Alexis shot a lot of 3 balls. During the jamboree, she attacked the paint more. Alexis is close to 5'8 with a solid frame. Her frame and quickness makes it difficult for smaller guards to get by her. She swallows them up defensively.

Strong Shooting Guard: I have really enjoyed witnessing the growth of Trinity's game and confidence, since last season. She came off the bench and instantly made an impact. She ran the floor in transition; got a bucket and was fouled on the shot. She scored off of a pull up jumper. She is such an unselfish player and makes extra passes to teammates. Although she is a guard, because of her frame and strength, she defended a post player on the block.

Stretch Rebounding Post. Kallie is an example of why an evaluator has to see a player in different settings. Whether it's in a league, with their travel team and also with their school team, so you can get an overall evaluation of a player. Kallie looked like a completely different player from what I saw during the Fall League. During the league, I never saw Kallie shoot from beyond the block. In the Jamboree, she shot from the high post and also from the mid post. She actually got a couple of looks in the mid post area. She got on the floor to secure possession of the ball from a player. She got on the boards for rebounds. My unofficial numbers: Kallie had 14 points and 6 rebounds.

Versatile Combo Guard. From what I saw at the Jamboree, Caidyn won't be restricted to playing only the point spot. The way Houston gets out and run after getting rebounds, she may end up on the wing. During the Jamboree, she scored by attacking, off a pull up jumper, got a stick back from an offensive board, got to the FT line and by going coast to coast; because after a dead ball everybody on the court relaxed and walked. She beat everybody down the floor for the bucket. My unofficial numbers: Caidyn had 11 points, 4 boards and 2 steals.
