Two names that are synonymous with Louisiana Basketball are Wossman and Huntington. Each team is known for their high skilled and high energy girls' basketball players. Each team represents the best of their community and the top girls in each class fighting for bragging rights. Wossman ultimately proved they were too much to handle for Huntington, but the game was fun and competitive from start to finish. Here are some of the standout players from the game.

[player_tooltip player_id='489558' first='Kyndal' last='Graham'] is one of the best scorers in the state, and her job this season will be to lead, score, assist, defend and try to keep try to grab a break in between all of that. She finished the game with 25 points, and she appeared to be back in classic Graham form. She is a special player on or off the ball and her performance was nothing short of inspiring. The North Texas commit has all of the tools, along with the toughness to carry this team back to State Championship glory, and after watching her last night, the safe bet is with KG.

[player_tooltip player_id='943325' first='Kaylie' last='Dupree'] is a Division 1 prospect, playing High School basketball. She has the size, athleticism, strength and attitude for next level play and in her first game of the season she was exceptional in her post role. Bigs block shots, rebound, defend and most of all intimidate. She has eye catching size, and honestly could be a prospect in three different sports if she decided to. There may only be one more player in the state that can match her size, and Dupree is only a junior. She has put in weight-room work and that is what matters for her right now.

[player_tooltip player_id='920227' first='Heaven' last='Weeks'] is hands down one of the best players in the state. Watching her for the past three years, her size and toughness were her most noticeable attributes. Last night Weeks showed that she has locked in on skill work. She was inside, outside, left to right and anywhere else her team needed her to be. She is not a ball-dominant player, but she is NICE when the ball is in her hands. The sophomore is not the same player as last year, or even last summer. She is an intelligent player that feeds her team mates when the plan is to stop her. Salute to the solemn hooper. It is fun watching this one grow.

Mikaiya Johnson caught my attention a couple weeks ago, and I mentioned that her growth would be a big key if Wossman wanted to maintain their standard of greatness. One player cannot win it all and the true mark of a program is development. She is devloping. Johnson led Wossman in scoring last night, and put the state on notice. Wossman is not a three headed Monster. There are four legit play makers that you must plan for. Johnson is a focused player that does all the little things, and she scores the ball. This Wossman team is balanced, and Johnson tipped the scale in their favor in the first big match up of the season.

[player_tooltip player_id='655014' first='Ashanti' last='Smith'] is the team shooter, and at one point I was curious if she would get her shots for the game. In a tense match-up that could have gone either way, Ashanti saved her buckets for the fourth quarter. Smith is a three and D player with nice length and basketball confidence. Smith is a shooter, and she layed low and played defense for the first three quarters and in the fourth showed her super power. Her key shots were made just when it looked like the momentum could have shifted towards the opposition. 14 points on opening night are sniper numbers. Smith will play college ball, and could shoot Wossman back to another title.
