Battle on Island: Breakout Players and Stock Risers

On day two, her defense stood out with multiple deflections and steals that were converted into transition baskets. On day three, Martin mixed some scoring in the paint with some spectacular athletic plays that drew applause from the crowd. Martin scored on a powerful interior play and followed it with an impressive one-handed rebound. Her athleticism stood out — running the floor hard, taking off from the free-throw line area with long strides and finishing with extension. Martin is a high-ceiling athlete whose physical tools translated to the court. Martin had a breakout performance this weekend at the Battle on the Island.     [player_tooltip player_id='1118795' first='Angel' last='Pierce'] was a standout at the Battle on the Island, showing real offensive creativity. She was very effective in the mid-range, played with grit, and made smart reads out of the pick-and-roll. Highlighted by an excellent pass to the roller for a clean bucket, she showed impressive feel and timing. Pierce also added a jump-step finish in traffic and displayed a soft shooting touch at the rim. Pierce's displayed a lot of control and poise throughout the tournament.     [player_tooltip player_id='1249017' first='Angelina' last='Laudicina'] continues to play well showing a very diverse offensive game- three point shooting off the catch and dribble, attacking down hill, and moving the ball in the flow of the offense. The Freshman guard has really picked it up on the defensive end and showed some impressive speed to cover the opposition's point guard for on a few possessions. Laudicina also mixed it up in the paint against physical players- defending and battling for rebounds. She has shown the ability to block shots with her length and good timing. Already one of the top Freshman in the State, Laudicina's stock continues to rise as she develops into a force on both ends of the court.     [player_tooltip player_id='1246258' first='Danessa' last='Pierce'] ran the point guard position with great pace and maturity for a Sophomore. Pierce bought a calmness to the floor and the offense flowed well with her orchestrating the offense. Pierce played with a high basketball IQ on both ends of the floor. On the defensive end she also showed speed, quickness, tenacity and competitiveness - traits that allowed her to cover the opposition's toughest player. On offense she displayed a nice shooting touch and form, connecting on a few threes during the tournament. Pierce's stock will continue to rise     [player_tooltip player_id='1118790' first='Kamya' last='Leroy'] continues to flash signs of a dominant player. Leroy is an athletic guard who impacts the game from all over the court. At the Battle on the Island, Leroy attacked effectively off the catch and either got to the rim or pulled up for the mid-range shot. Leroy applied great pressure defensively and showed an ability to guard on the ball or off the ball against multiple positions. She showed quick hands, turning steals into coast-to-coast scoring chances. Her ability to create energy on both ends made her presence felt, and her performance established her as a prospect whose stock is on the rise.     [player_tooltip player_id='755319' first='Audrey' last='Rollins'] continued to push the push the pace and make timely three point shots that eventually led to a blowout victory. Rollins showcased good ball handling and shot the three ball well- from deep. Rollins has established herself as one of the top three point shooters on the first coast. Her stroke looked smooth and she let it fly with great confidence.
