It is once again Freshmen Friday, and we would like to take this opportunity to highlight the freshman class of 2029 and some of its top women's basketball prospects. These young women are a joy to observe, and they have many years ahead to continue developing their skills. Allow me to introduce you to these dedicated young ladies: Harper Rutherford from Stanley High School, Katie Grace Quinn from Hicks High School, [player_tooltip player_id='916990' first='Brooklyn' last='Boatner'] from West Monroe High School, Malyrics Jones from West Monroe High School, Azaria Williams from Many High School, and [player_tooltip player_id='1314018' first='Janiya' last='Douglass'] from Plain Dealing High School. She demonstrates versatility in her game, effectively operating both inside and outside the paint, excelling at jump shots and post-game play. Janiya is adept at driving to the basket when opportunities arise and is skilled at creating space. Her excellent court vision and passing abilities make her a valuable asset to her team. Furthermore, Janiya plays aggressively on both offense and defense, consistently applying ball pressure, forcing turnovers, and securing rebounds for second-chance points. She is a very solid player with significant potential for continued improvement as she develops her skills. We encourage you to keep a close watch on this promising young athlete.     [player_tooltip player_id='916990' first='Brooklyn' last='Boatner'], a combo guard for the West Monroe High School Lady Rebels, really stands out. You'll immediately notice her confidence and how well she handles the ball. She's an elite ball handler, breaking down defenders in isolation, creating space, and attacking. Brooklyn's communication skills are top-notch, making her a true floor general. She's a shifty player and super unselfish, always creating scoring chances for her teammates. And on defense, she gives just as much effort as she does on offense.     Malyrics Jones, a combo guard for the Lady Rebels of West Monroe High School, is a formidable defensive presence on the court. Her high level of play and aggressive style often lead to turnovers, as she demonstrates an exceptional ability to steal the ball or deflect passes. Malyrics is consistently active across the entire court. In one particular game, she achieved 9 steals and concluded the night with 22 points. Malyrics also excels offensively, capable of scoring from all areas of the court. She is truly an amazing athlete to observe.     Katie Grace Quinn, a center/power forward wearing number 14 for the Lady Pirates of Hicks High School, stands over 6 feet tall. Her long limbs are instrumental in protecting the paint, making her an effective rim protector. As a freshman, Katie demonstrated a strong and aggressive playing style under the rim, possessing a physique highly sought after by coaches at the next level. Her size and strength enable her to block shots and secure rebounds with ease. Despite her stature, Katie exhibits commendable offensive basketball skills, including excellent court vision for throwing the ball up court to her teammates. She primarily operates within the paint, where she excels at securing offensive rebounds and scoring second-chance points, showcasing impressive post moves and footwork. Katie is also capable of handling the ball when necessary. With further development and dedicated effort, she is poised to become an even more formidable opponent for other teams in the future.     Harper Rutherford, a shooting guard for the Lady Panthers of Stanley High School, wears number 32. She is a highly effective sharpshooter on the court, having made 23 three-pointers in just 7 games, and her total has undoubtedly increased since this evaluation. Harper is a versatile scorer who averages 11 points per game as a true freshman. Her scoring ability is just one of her many talents; she also demonstrates excellent ball-handling skills, delivers precise passes to her teammates, and possesses exceptional court vision and hustle. Defensively, she exhibits a strong basketball IQ by anticipating passing lanes, forcing turnovers, and actively pursuing loose balls. She maintains a high level of energy and is always prepared to compete with full effort.     Azaria Williams, a small forward/power forward for Many High School Lady Tigers,Azaria is a formidable player despite her relatively smaller stature for her position. Azaria is an exceptional defensive player, consistently battling for <a href="https://prepgirlshoops.com/2026/01/mid-season-standouts/?itm_campaign=wp-parsely&itm_medium=smart-link&itm_term=03b7b1f043cbd7aac859dde80769bf9c&itm_source=traffic-boost" data-smartlink="03b7b1f043cbd7aac859dde80769bf9c" title="Freshmen Friday &#8211; Top Standouts">rebounds</a> and loose balls, and frequently causing turnovers in the paint. Azaria fearlessly challenges opponents in the paint, regardless of their size, and is not easily intimidated. Offensively, Azaria demonstrates a strong inside game, capable of posting up, executing shimmy moves, and scoring. Azaria also possesses the ability to drive to the basket and score even when met with contact. Azaria serves as an enforcer for her team, exhibiting good ball-handling skills and maintaining a vocal presence on the court. We eagerly anticipate witnessing her continued development and the expansion of her shooting range.
