The nominations are in for Minnesota’s Miss Basketball

The girls basketball regular season ends in less than a month. The high school state tournament is six weeks away. That means it's time to reveal the 40 players who made the nomination list for Minnesota's 2026 Miss Basketball award. Selected by a committee of the Minnesota Girls Basketball Coaches Association, the award is presented annually to the premier high school senior in the state.

Tuesday evening the association provided us with its list of nominees. There are plenty of household names, of course, and other players that casual fans may not be as familiar with. Here's a rundown on the favorites, potential finalists, and others who deserve consideration. As we do every year, we'll offer up some names that were left off the list.

The final five will be announced on Sunday, March 15 – the day after the state tournament concludes. The winner will be named April 10 in Northfield at the All-Star Series Banquet.

THE FAVORITES

Maddyn Greenway Maddyn Greenway 5'8" | PG Providence Academy | 2026 State #14 Nation MN – guard, Providence Academy

The University of Kentucky commit is the odds-on favorite. I'm not certain what exactly would have to happen for Maddyn to not win it. She is one of the premier players in the nation, represented her country with Team USA and has led Providence to an unprecedented four consecutive Class 2A state championships.

Tori Oehrlein Tori Oehrlein 5'11" | CG Crosby-Ironton | 2026 State #56 Nation MN – guard, Crosby-Ironton

Last week the University of Minnesota signee became the state's all-time scoring leader. In a normal year, that sort of career would make a player a lock for the Miss Basketball award. But the Class of 2026 is by no means normal, and Greenway's accomplishment's on the biggest stages are undeniable. If Crosby-Ironton makes a run for the title, however, you never know.

WHO ELSE SHOULD MAKE THE FINAL 5?

Vienna Murray Vienna Murray 6'1" | SG East Ridge | 2026 State #83 Nation MN – guard, East Ridge

The University of Oklahoma commit is having a stellar senior year. Averaging nearly 25 points per game, Murray has led the Raptors to a record of 16-3 so far while displaying exceptional leadership abilities day in and day out.

Mya Moore Mya Moore 5'10" | PG Orono | 2026 State #103 Nation MN – guard, Orono

The Creighton signee had a 51-point performance when we watched two weeks ago, emblematic of her dominance for the Spartans this season. Orono is currently the top-ranked team in the state in Class 3A as Moore leaves her mark on every aspect of the game.

Lanelle Wright Lanelle Wright 5'8" | PG Minnetonka | 2026 State #109 Nation MN – guard, Minnetonka

The Grand Canyon University commit is a pure point guard, an elite tactician with a top-notch skillset, even-keel demeanor on the court, and tremendous feel for the game. Lanelle is positioned well to lead her team to the ultimate goal in March.

WHO GOT MISSED?

Every year there are names left off the list that would seem to be logical nominations. There are any number of reasons for that. In many cases the player's high school coach did not follow the nomination procedure or missed the submission deadline. In other cases a player has had a disciplinary issue off the court that may not have been made public but renders them ineligible. Sometimes it's just the opinion of the committee.
