Argyle Showcase Top Scorers: the Next Wave

I recently attended the Argyle Showcase in the New York/Vermont Border Region, an event that featured 16 high school teams competing in four brackets. Schools participating in the showcase represented New York Sections II, VII, and X. It was a great opportunity to see several players in action. Here is Part 2 of the recap of the top scorers.    [player_tooltip player_id='1276530' first='Addison' last='Whitbeck'] recorded an impressive double-double of 12 points and 13 rebounds against Lake George at the Argyle Showcase. Whitbeck is a left-handed powerhouse in the post. She showed an ability to catch on the block and use a drop step to score with the left hand. Whitbeck can also spin back to the middle and score with a soft touch with her right hand. Although the strength of her game is around the rim, Whitbeck can shoot 15 to 20 feet out to stretch a defense.     [player_tooltip player_id='1186447' first='Madyson' last='Brennan'] scored 15 points and pulled down nine rebounds on the second day of the Argyle Showcase against Saratoga Catholic. Brennan is a very polished player for such a young age and still has room to develop. Brennan typically plays the four or five, but could play the three as well. She has a soft touch around the rim and can get to the basket with either hand. What makes her extra dangerous is her ability to stretch the defense by stepping out to shoot 3-pointers. Brennan is also a solid rebounder and shot blocker.      Ava Fioretino was the Most Valuable Player as her team won the Argyle Showcase Maroon Division title. Fiorentino's strong performance earned her Most Valuable Player honors for her team's bracket. In the opening round of the showcase, she registered a double-double with 17 points and 11 boards. She added 21 points in the title game. One of Fiorenetino's strengths is her anticipation on defense. She is often jumping into the passing lane to create steals, which turn into transition baskets. Fiorentino has quick hands that create problems for players dribbling against her. She has a nice shooting touch from behind the arc, both from the wing and baseline areas.     [player_tooltip player_id='1154057' first='Audrey' last='Fiske'] is a double-double machine. At the Argyle Showcase, Fiske scored 20 points and pulled down 18 rebounds for Hartford in a win over Berlin/New Lebanon. These stats represent a typical night for Fiske. Fiske is built like a guard, but plays much bigger than her height. Her strength is the ability to read the ball off the rim, which positions her to turn rebounds into putbacks. She is also a very cerebral player who understands the game and always makes the right decisions on the floor. Fiske has a very soft touch around the painted area and is a fierce defender.     Moriah is ranked No. 8 in New York state in Class C, and Lexi Mascarenas is a big part of the reason. Mascarenas had 16 points on the first day of the Argyle Showcase. On day two in the championship game for her team's bracket, Mascarenas netted 18 points, 12 from behind the arc. Mascarenas is an outstanding 3-point shooter. She has a very quick release and is consistent from both the wing and the baseline. Mascarenas also knows how to get to the basket, often creating contact to earn trips to the foul line, where she is an excellent shooter.     Emmy Nephew scored 15 points in Moriah's opening round game of the Argyle Showcase. She then poured in 25 points, including 12 from behind the arc, in the title matchup. Nephew is the primary ball handler for the Vikings. She does a nice job of directing her team's offense and distributing the ball to her teammates. Nephew is an outstanding 3-point shooter from all around the arc. When given the opportunity, she can drive the paint to score easy buckets.
