Desert Holiday Classic: X-factors at Guard

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>4 high schools, 4 brackets, 32 total teams. The Desert Holiday Classic was one of the most competitive holiday tournaments in the country. Games were played at Rancho Mirage High School, Palm Springs High School, Indio High School, and Cathedral City High School. The talent was off-the-charts across the board. She makes passes that only a handful of gurads can make in the state. Elite floor general who can pick a defense apart. Had some dimes in transition that will leave you speechless. <strong>Armanyie</strong> scored a combined 57 points over the first three games of the tourney. She set the tone for her deep, talented squad. Ran the show and perfected the half-court offense. <strong>Armanyie</strong> takes care of the ball and plays with intensity on the defensive end. As Calexico's leading scorer, she set the tone and gave her team plenty of confidence. When she gots hot from the 3-pt line, <strong>Ivanna</strong> is hard to stop. Understands how to initiate contact and get to the line. Gave her team energy on both ends. She steps into her shot with great rhythm and balance. Has a knack for finding open areas on the perimeter to spot-up. What was even more impressive was her impact defensively. 3 blocks vs. Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary to go along with 23 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 steals. She swatted shots in transition and in the post. <strong>Sofi</strong> can guard four different positions at the high school level. Thrives in the pick-and-roll as a result of her natural playmaking ability and sharpshooting prowess. Shoots it well off-the-catch and off-the-dribble. <strong>Ellie </strong>understands how to keep everyone involved on offense. She has proven to be a model of consistency this year. She always made the right play as a scorer and playmaker. Sees the floor well and takes care of the ball. Very active hands on the defensive end. Scores on all 3 levels, but can get particularly hot from long-range. <strong>Nevaeh's</strong> quick trigger and cat-like quickness make her a very tough cover overall. She can pull-up, she can spot-up, she can come off screens, she is lethal in transition, the list goes on.. an all-around great shooter! <strong>Lila</strong> helped lead St. Margaret's High school to victory in the Purus Inc. bracket after standout teammate, <strong>Annika Tufo</strong>, hit the championship game winning three-pointer as time expired in OT. <strong>Lila </strong>displays elite footwork to get her shot off quickly and make the defense pay when they are too late on the closeout. She is more than just a shooter. Has her fingerprints over every aspect of the game.
