Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='1617969' first='Lilea' last='Burns'] led all scorers with 28 points for West Salem in a narrow loss to Nelson on Tuesday. Burns has come off the bench and shown glimpses of brilliance since her freshman year. This week, the wing earned a starting spot for the Lady Titans against the Hawks, and she performed. Burns got downhill with speed on the bounce and was an exciting finisher at the rim. She connected from three-point range. She ran the floor and made heads-up passes. She played help-side defense, hunted passing lanes, and scored in transition. Burns will play an important role for West Salem as they compete against a formidable South Salem rival for the Central Valley Conference title.

Back from injury, [player_tooltip player_id='921631' first='Tatiana' last='Harris'] made her senior debut as a spark off the bench with 14 points (3 3PM) for Nelson in a 71-66 road win against West Salem on Tuesday. The Hawks trailed the Titans by double digits in the first quarter, then Harris entered the game with big-time energy, making plays on both sides of the ball, and injecting her team with the confidence needed to make the comeback. The point guard hit a buzzer-beater three-pointer to keep her team within two points at the half. Harris is a bouncy and agile 2-way point guard who keeps the ball moving. She can pull up from three and drive to the rim. She's an excellent defender who can pick pockets and score on fast breaks.

Metro League Player of the Year, [player_tooltip player_id='832605' first='Sara' last='Mangan'], continues to deliver for Southridge in her senior season. The Portland-commit averaged over 20 points at the Holiday Classic in the competitive Platinum bracket last week and put up 25 points (6 3PM) in a 60-47 ranked win on the road against Sherwood this week. Down one starter due to injury, the Skyhawks still look like they could lead the Metro League this season. Southridge opens league play at home against Beaverton on Tuesday night.

[player_tooltip player_id='1264922' first='Nuari' last='Filipe'] has proven to be an impact freshman for Springfield during the preseason. She led the MIllers in scoring with 18 efficient points in a road win against 4A-ranked Cascade on Tuesday. Filipe is smooth and under control on the bounce and the pull-up jumper. She connected from three-point range and finished around the rim from the drive and posting up. Despite graduating Filipe's older sister, Springfield returned a core group that will contend for the Midwestern League title against rival and reigning 5A state champion Crater.

Five-foot-10 junior Lainey Klampe led Cascade in scoring with 15 points in a 5-point loss against 5A-ranked Springfield. The forward used her length to finish inside on one end and protect the rim on the other. She attacked the rim on the bounce, posted up, and finished around the basket. Klampe was a strong rebounder and had active hands to tip the ball on defense. She'll be an important piece for the Cougars as they compete in the Oregon West Conference with 4A top two Stayton and Philomath.
