Mid-State Sleepers To Watch

Teams are getting their second look at district foes, and they are jockeying for position as each game matters for seeding purposes in the district tournament. Some will split with others in head-to-head matchups. While others will sweep the competition as they look for favorable spots in the district. One thing is for sure, I do believe there isn't one team in the state that has peaked yet as far as their ceiling goes.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Early on, we have had some incredible matchups. Both district and non-district games, this postseason is about to be one of the most exciting ones to date. With so much unknown at hand, you never know who will get hot and go the distance. Public or private, the gold ball for the taking this upcoming season. Each possession matters. Each game matters. Everything means more.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>As teams get ready for that stretch run, we have had some young ladies step up here lately. They may not be the traditional names you see, but they have put in some impressive performances to help their team click. I'll call them “sleepers,” but these girls are having breakthrough moments that are revving up their team for the tournament. She has been getting it done both offensively and defensively. Getting to the rim with ease, attacking gaps, knocking down open shots, she is playing with a lot of confidence on the offensive side of the ball. Defensively, that's her calling card, as she's been getting steals and contributing on the boards. Utilizing her speed, she has been a pest, causing all sorts of trouble defensively. Anytime she is spot up, she can knock it down easily. Shooting it with confidence, she splashes the bottom of the net more often than not. Playing with a lot of swag, her defense has turned it up a notch as well. She is all over the place as she and her teammates cause havoc on defense. Teams tend to not give this young lady credit, and she makes them pay as she is consistently in double figures in every contest. She can get it down in the paint or stretch the floor, hitting 3s consistently. She contributes to the boards and block shots as well. This kid has been on a burner as of late, and she has this BGA squad gelling together at the right time. From using her speed to cleaning up on the glass in the interior, Aaliyah's stock is rising as she plays with more confidence on the floor. Using her length, she is able to create favorable matchups and exploit various spots on the floor. Offensively, she can dial it up inside and out. Defensively, rebounds, gets steals, and her presence on the floor poses as a threat at all times. Great court vision, solid passer, can put the ball in the net from all three levels, she is a go-getter on both ends of the floor for a solid team looking to make another run at state. Playing with effective energy, this kid sets the tone as her club competes for the ball on every possession. Anytime she touches the rock, great things tend to happen.
