It's another holiday weekend with the Martin Luther King Jr holiday coming up on Monday. To honor his legacy, the MLK Holiday Classic brought together schools from across North Carolina and Virginia to compete against other programs that they won't typically see in their regular seasons. I was able to catch all eight games on day one of the event. Here's the first group of game changers that I saw from these competitions.

[player_tooltip player_id='599110' first='Amaya' last='Ross'] was doing well using her power dribbles to get into position and bank it in off the glass. She moved well all over the court shifting the defense, and she grabbed rebounds on both ends. She runs the floor well waiting for the pass in transition and not backing down from anyone on her way to the rim.

Sharon Aryeetey was all over the boards on both ends grabbing rebounds and knowing exactly what her next move was to get the play going like finding an outlet and pushing the tempo. She had some range with her shot making it count from deep. She did well from the top of the key finding her teammates flashing to the basket.

Alaysia Ortiz-Gonzalez had some nice range with her shot hitting it multiple times throughout the game. She knew how to attack the basket battling through contact to make her own path. She did well waiting for plays to develop hitting her teammates at the right time.

[player_tooltip player_id='1616513' first='Azariah' last='Brunson'] did a nice job turning to face the basket, feeling what her defender was giving her, and scoring the bucket off the glass. She hustles on every play getting up the court for an offensive rebound in transition and making the bucket count. She had a nice take coast to coast grabbing the rebound and finding herself open for the basket on the other end. She was tasked with guarding the opposing team's best player using her aggressiveness to prevent her from getting the ball and changing the momentum of the game in her team's favor.
