Prep Hoops itself hosted its own event at the start of the 2026 calendar year with the court at 5A Division 2 Greenville providing the stage for some of the state's first contests of 2026.

While it was mostly an event featuring boys teams, there was one girls contest towards the event's close. That matchup featured the host Red Raiders and the Bobcats of 4A Seneca. Without further ado, here are a few noteworthy names from both teams during Saturday's play.

Jaminet is one of the more ballyhooed 2029s across the Palmetto State and she lived up to that distinction on Saturday evening against 4A Seneca. With 13 points, Jaminet greatly helped her 5A Division 2 Greenville assembling to a 70-34 rout over the Bobcats. One has to heavily guard Jaminet when she has the ball behind the arc as she is very likely to take – and make – her tries from distance. Defensively, she utilizes her length to come away with steals and create additional offensive possessions for her team. Jaminet maintains a high level of activity even when the ball is not in her hand and can set up shop in the interior offensively – a testament to her versatility.

Speaking of guards, the Red Raiders of 5A Division 2 Greenville also feature one of the premier veteran backcourt beasts in the state in Owens. With a 13-point effort, Owens ensured the Red Raiders would have a successful defense of its home court against the Bobcats. Owens understands the art of taking care of the ball and limiting turnovers. A good bit of what she gets accomplished offensively occurs in the paint as she will convert on high-percentage buckets. That play near the rim enables her to corral many rebounds, making Owens a double-double threat even as a guard. Collecting steals as a defender is another strong area of her game. Owens is one of two team captains and plays two sports at Greenville (volleyball).

Taking on a team as stacked as 5A Division 2 Greenville is no easy task. The veteran Chamberlain was up for the challenge. Chamberlain paced her 4A Seneca assembling with 12 points for her Bobcats against the Red Raiders. Her ability to blend together fearlessness and talent is a great boost to any team. Chamberlain understands the art of handling the ball with either hand and slicing through defenses to find driving lanes to attack the cup. She also has no problems drawing contact to get to the free throw line – an attribute very valuable in a contest where many a personal foul was called.

Assemian is consistently one opposing teams have to game plan for – whether she is in the starting five or coming off the bench as was the case on Saturday. With a 15-point performance, Assemian ensured her Red Raiders would be in the win column against Seneca. One cannot coach height and Assemian's six-foot frame is plenty for opposing teams to contend with. Someone with that height would be expected to be an interior specialist but Assemian can also make things happen in the backcourt as a guard. She is a consistent playmaker on both ends of the floor and is one of six 2027s on this season's Red Raiders team.

For much of the second half, Floyd had to play through foul trouble as she accumulated her fourth personal in the third quarter. The veteran guard for 4A Seneca still did that to the tune of 15 points for her Bobcats. Floyd displays the ability to handle the rock with either hand in addition to the ability to set up an offense in a half court set. The floor general that is Floyd also understands how to find attacking lanes to the cup and is willing to draw contact that will place her at the free throw line. Floyd also knows which situations are ideal for scoring and which are so for ball distribution.

In 5A Division 2 Greenville's rout of 4A Seneca, a good bit of the Red Raiders' offensive production occurred off the bench. Cheeks added backcourt scoring depth in the form of 10 points as part of her team's offensive onslaught. Cheeks displays her confidence with her willingness to call for the ball when she believes she can make a play. She also displays superb ball-handling capabilities and understands when the scenarios are correct for attacking the rim and when it is time to distribute the rock. Cheeks also will display vocal leadership skills in addition to her leadership by example. She is the lone sophomore on this year's Red Raiders assembling.
