Valley Christian holds on to beat Rancho Solano Prep

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Jan 19th I attended the 3A <strong>Valley Christian Trojans</strong> hosting a freedom game versus 2A <strong>Rancho Solano Prep Mustangs</strong>. Both teams will be in the playoffs and they could do quite well at their respective conferences. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Valley Christian won <strong>50-45</strong>.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Here were some of the standouts on the night </h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='845258' first='Ellie' last='Phillips'] Valley Christian&nbsp;(Pictured left)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A true point guard who can score. She will drive and kick it and threw some nice passes up the court. She will score with self created jumpers from mid-range or extend it to the three. She is really quick to beat her defenders to the open spot bur her tight handle and passing makes her go.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='845263' first='Abby' last='Grier'] Valley Christian (Pictured right)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A strong framed guard can get downhill in traffic thru contact and shoot the three off the catch with a quick trigger. She will run the floor for tough layups and floaters and is a sneaky good passer. She will defend multiple positions and poured in 27 points carrying the team with five triples.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='1669675' first='Kendall' last='Rice'] <strong>Valley Christian</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A highly skilled scoring wing is a natural floor spacer for the team. She is a catch and shoot three point type and is a good rebounder in and out of her area. She will hustle for loose balls and gives it back to the guards. She scored 9 points.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1154412' first='Addison' last='Krupnik'] Valley Christian&nbsp;</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>An inside and out threat is a little undersized but strong and will fight for rebounds in and out of her area with two hands. She can face up to the three point line and then score it inside with a nice touch using her size and length. She will be one of their go-to players the next two years. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1154397' first='Kendall' last='Goncharoff'] Valley Christian</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A tough undersized junior lead guard will handle it a little when it is not in Phillips hands. She is very aggressive to the basket with downhill takes thru contact with and-1's. She will rebound and even dive on the floor for loose balls.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1154413' first='Alexandra' last='Mushahwar'] Rancho Solano Prep</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A talented sophomore has some size for a wing forward. She will pull-up off the dribble from the three point line and loves using the runner. She rebounds well in her area and will block shots using her size and length. She scored a team high 17 points.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='659946' first='Nenah' last='Brown'] Rancho Solano Prep&nbsp;</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A strong framed power forward will get downhill with either hand effectively or earn trips to the FT Line. She will shoot it with mid-range jumpers and uses a tough drop step. She can handle it well and create her own offense. She is a beast inside and scored 14 points.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1154422' first='Heidi' last='Iancu'] Rancho Solano Prep&nbsp;</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A highly skilled combo guard can play on or off the ball a little. She has a nice looking shooting stroke from the three point line and can pull-up from mid-range. She is also quick enough to get a step on her defender to the basket. She has good lateral quickness and also rebounds the ball well. She will score with quick drives, threes off the catch and moves the ball to the open teammate like you should. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
