Adirondack League Tournament-Which Prospects Shined?

The Adirondack League is annually one of the top small school leagues in New York. Schools from the circuit are often contenders for sectional, regional, and state titles. That is because some of the most coveted Class C and D players come from the league every season. Last week's Adirondack League playoffs produced some outstanding performances. Here is the first segment of a two-part look at some of the best.    Whitney Cameron has been one of the top scorers in the Adirondack League, and tournament play was no different. Even though her team came up a little short in the final, Cameron had a strong game. She finished with a game-high 15 points. Cameron showed off her deep shooting range from behind the arc, along with the ability to score in the lane off the dribble. Cameron also showed her command of the team and ball-handling skills when running the point and was an aggressive, physical defender.     Chloe Popa is one of the most productive combo guards in the Adirondack League. Popa could be classified as a point guard as she is her team's primary ball-handler, but she is the leading scorer as well. In the Adirondack League tournament consolation game, Popa put on a 3-point shooting clinic, scoring 15 points, all from behind the arc. Popa is not afraid of the big shot. Every time her team's opponent got close, she nailed a trey.     Levyn Burgey led her team to the Adirondack League tournament title. Burgey connected on the game-winning free throw with 5.5 seconds remaining. Burgey is a solid defender, both away from the basket and in the paint. She is a very good shot blocker with excellent anticipation. Burgey is a relentless rebounder, which leads to a high percentage of her offense through putbacks. Burgey does most of her offensive work in the lane, where she is very difficult to defend.     Cheyenne Holman had solid performances in both the Adirondack League semifinals and championship game. Holman led Whitehall in scoring with 12 points in the final. She scored 10 points in the semifinals. 3-point shooting is one of Holman's strengths, and she hit a couple of clutch ones in the game. An underrated part of her game is the ability to drive to the basket, often utilizing a Euro Step that she has perfected. Holman knows how to find her teammates with passes to create scoring opportunities. Like all players in the Whitehall program, Holman is a very good defender.     [player_tooltip player_id='1276548' first='Bella' last='Craig'] is a player who, whether she scores a lot of points on a given night or not, impacts winning in a lot of ways. In the Adirondack League championship game, Craig made her presence known with a top of the key three on her first shot attempt. Besides knocking down the 3-pointer, Craig showed her ability to beat defenders off the dribble to get to the basket, either creating shots for herself or finding open teammates. Craig is also a strong defender, but perhaps her greatest asset is her court sense. She is a crafty player with a clear understanding of the game. Only a sophomore, Craig should be one of the area's top players next season and is a player to keep an eye on.
