Assumption High School went on the road last night to face off against The Clinton River Queens for each team's last game of the regular 2025-2026 high school season.

This game was a battle in the first half. No one could grab more than a 6 point edge leading into halftime. For both parties, all of their players were competing at a steady rate. I wouldn't say that there was anyone specifically in the first half that stood out. It was truly more of a group effort for both sides but in the second half, at the end of the third quarter, the River Queens started to show their dominance. They started to push the tempo down the floor while running their trapping defense. This led to a handful of tips, steals, and deflections, ultimately leading to transition buckets. From there, everything was down hill. They kept attack the defense as they went towards the rim and no one could slow them down. When the final buzzer sounded, Clinton secured the victory by 9 points, 53-44.

[player_tooltip player_id='1183159' first='Aubrey' last='Fergurson'] made some clutch plays last night when things got close. Clinton ended up finishing out on top but there were moments when the game became a one or two point affair down the stretch and every time that happened, Fergurson made some momentum-swinging plays. In one instance, she boarded a big offensive rebound for the put back bucket. In another, she did the same thing but made the shot AND took the contact for an AND1 opportunity. Fergurson finished the contest as the leading rebounder for her squad, holding down the middle of the lane on both ends of the court. Not to mention, she moved down the floor at a respectable rate in transition, always giving 100% effort on each play. All in all, this was a great showing for Fergurson with a packed crowd in attendance last night for the River Queens.

The player that stood out last night right away was [player_tooltip player_id='1132297' first='Anna' last='Timmons'] of Assumption because of her mixture of size, athletic ability, and coordination. Timmons is still putting things together as an overall competitor but she makes some really sound plays when her team needs a bucket. She is versatile enough to play inside-to-outside on the offensive end and she can switch on the defensive end between guarding several different positions. (Basically the 2-5 at this point.) With Timmons' natural height and the way that she can move down the court, it's not crazy to think that this is someone who will finish out their high school career and compete at the college level at some form. When her team needed something to happen yesterday, this is who they looked to at the Forward position and she didn't disappoint, even though her team fell short in the end.

The best overall prospect in this battle was [player_tooltip player_id='643486' first='Jhaliana' last='Guy'] from Clinton's side of things. Guy started off the game slow as Clinton couldn't get into a rhythm in the first half. That's primarily why things stayed close between both squads but in the second half everything seemed to flow a little bit better when Clinton just let their girls play in the open court. Guy's skill level is top-notch. There is no doubt about that. She puts up big numbers in a short amount of time, always keeping the opposition on their heels. It'll be interesting to see how the rest of her high school career goes following this season. She will have two more years left of high school ball and I'm sure she will be looking to make the most of that time. As for this game, Guy did her thing and led all scores (23) with ease.

Rachel Morlok might only be a freshman right now but she is going to continue to be a staple within Assumption's system over the next 3 years. Morlok, the 5'8 CG, is a glue player. Someone that can keep the team together with their effort, skill, communication, and energy. Every team out there needs someone like this to get the people going while they produce in one way or another. Morlok embodies that. She holds her own and puts up some solid numbers as she competes. Last night she finished things off being her team's second highest scorer with 9 on 50% shooting. That's a respectable number in a respectable win, that she should be proud of.

If you are looking at the overall stat lines of last night, [player_tooltip player_id='1056686' first='Carryn' last='Sattler'] for the River Queens shot the best percentage from the field on offense as she stuffed the stat sheet. Sattler didn't just have 11 points on 4/8 shooting, including going 2/2 from behind the three point line. She also grabbed 6 rebounds and stole the ball once from her matchup on defense. This is a big effort-type of player. Sattler competes intensely and she produces while doing so. Something you love to see from a coaching perspective. If this team wants to make a Playoff run, it's all hands on deck. Prospects like Sattler will have to step up to be consistent in some big ways. If they can do that, who knows how far they will take things.
