Mesquite wins a tight one for the 4A Chip

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>On March 5th I attended the 4A State Championship at the Arizona Veteran's Memorial Stadium with #4 <strong>Paradise Honors Panthers</strong> taking on #6 <strong>Mesquite Wildcats</strong>. Both teams upset some top teams along the way and were playing well. A crazy shot at the end of the 3rd and timely scoring catapulted the Wildcats to win the ring. It was <strong>39-38.</strong> </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Here were the 4A Finals Standouts </h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='481475' first='Averi' last='Mehlberg'] Mesquite (Pictured left)&nbsp;</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A highly skilled guard has some size and toughness. She can score with mid-range jumpers, threes off the catch or pull and she hit the shot of the year for girls basketball with a full court buzzer beater at the end of the third quarter. She will block shots and rebounds well in her area. She scored 12 points with 3 steals and 2 blocks.  </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='755556' first='Jensen' last='Cowart'] Mesquite (Pictured right)&nbsp;</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A defensive minded power forward controlled the glass. She is a rebound chaser in and out of her area and will grab the rebound and push the ball up the court. She will score with tough inside buckets and offensive rebound put backs. She finished with 8 points with 10 rebounds and 4 key blocks.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='836788' first='Skylie' last='Gonzales'] Mesquite&nbsp;</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A cerebral point guard will make players around her better and sees the court. She is also a very good scorer with threes off the catch and quick drives to the basket. She is quick on the ball defensively and collected 2 steals with 9 points 3 assists and 7 rebounds.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1798445' first='Mariah' last='Willis'] Mesquite</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>An undersized wing forward or shooting guard. She comes with some toughness and skill. The lefty hit two clutch shots in the fourth quarter with threes off the catch and another tough shot. She rebounds in her area and makes smart reads to teammates.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='927950' first='Elizabeth' last='Guincho'] Paradise Honors&nbsp;</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A super versatile guard plays on or off the ball. She has decent size and will get downhill to the basket with a burst and score thru the contact or earn trips the line. She rebounds unusually well for her position, she sees the floor well and will collect steals. She finished with an impressive stat line of 11 points 9 rebounds 5 assists and 4 steals.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='845670' first='Jaelyn' last='Perez'] Paradise Honors</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>An undersized scoring point guard is quick on quick. She uses an impressive first step with a burst to get downhill to the basket to score. She handles the ball well and is quick in the passing lanes. She scored 4 points with 2 assists and 3 steals.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='758873' first='Star' last='Nwabichie'] Paradise Honors&nbsp;</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A long and lean power forward with good fluidity, agility and budding skill. She moves well in space to defend and will rebound at a high clip and block shots. She is now facing up more to the three point line and runs the floor well. She scored 8 points with 5 rebounds and 1 block.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='928305' first='Hala' last='Aoufe'] Paradise Honors</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Another versatile bigger wing was a little off from the field in this final but showed some nice glimpses of what she can do. She handles the ball well and has a nice frame to rebound with a motor. She scored 3 points with 8 rebounds.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
