Opening Day Standouts at the IHSA Girls State Finals (2A) Game 1

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The 2A class has consistently had some of the more competitive programs and players in the state. I've had the chance to see a good number of these players throughout the season, but not all of them, simply because many of those programs are farther from the areas I usually cover. The state finals always bring a different environment, and the chance to see more of them live on the biggest stage of the year adds another layer to the evaluation. Win or lose, several players made their presence felt when the lights were brightest. </h2>    A high energy kid who plays the game with no rush at all. From her shot form to her rim attacks, she moves with pace and intention. There is a little craftiness to her game, and she knows when to use it and when not to. Overall, a hard hat type of player who plays winning basketball. | 15 pts, 10 rebs     Coming into this game, Weber has been one of the more dominant players in her area. She has the mobility and scoring around the rim that separate her from others in her area. She is a player who knows how to establish position in the paint. Defensively, she has good awareness and can rotate onto a guard if necessary. | 17 pts, 10 rebs     The ball security that was on display by Ella was amazing to see. They were pressed almost every possession, and she never seemed phased or worried. The handle is flashy or crafty, but it's reactive, and she uses it to take her places.. and hit angles. There's a solid amount of footwork that goes with it, too.     Leach has such a strong, high motor that her impact goes beyond scoring. When the ball is in her hands, she commands so much attention that it opens up her ability to make plays around her. She does not hesitate when it comes to making the right play. The same impact and energy are displayed on the defensive end too.     Butler has been a player we have talked about a decent amount over her high school career, and her energy and adaptability are a big part of that. Offensively, she is not limited in how she can help a team. It really comes down to what you need. She can catch and shoot, slash and cut, and put the ball on the ground to attack as well.     Burke seems to be the glue piece with this squad. She does a little of everything and finds ways to be impactful with her own energy. In constant motion, she always seems to be in the right spot at the right time. A player who can adapt to whatever a coach is in need of.
