Heated rivalries, PACKED gyms, and bragging rights that carry into next season… this is Kentucky basketball at its absolute BEST! The 60th District Tournament delivered everything you could ask for and more. High intensity matchups, momentum swings, and players rising to the occasion as every team emptied the tank with a championship on the line. Every possession mattered, every run was answered, and the atmosphere was electric from start to finish!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The semifinals, hosted by Belfry, saw Pike County Central come out with energy and purpose from the opening tip. The Lady Hawks were locked in defensively and set the tone early, overwhelming Phelps in a dominant 55-36 win. They made life tough on every touch, flying around on defense, contesting every shot, and turning stops into offense. From start to finish, Pike County Central controlled the tempo and never allowed Phelps to settle in, making a loud statement that they were ready for a title run!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>That set up a championship showdown between the two teams everyone had circled from the start, Pike County Central and Belfry. These two battled all season, each handing the other a loss in district play, and the rematch lived up to the hype in every way possible. In front of their home crowd, the Belfry Lady Pirates dug deep and found a way to survive in a thriller, holding on for a 52-51 win to capture the district championship. The energy in the gym was unreal as Belfry secured its first district title since the 21-22 season and celebrated by cutting down the nets on their home floor!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Belfry had multiple players step up in big moments to make it happen.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Freshman [player_tooltip player_id='1176087' first='Lexi' last='Mapes'] put together a monster performance with 19 points and 15 rebounds, completely controlling the paint and the glass.
