There is NOTHING like cutting down the nets on championship night! Heated rivalries, PACKED gyms, and bragging rights that carry into next season… this is Kentucky basketball at its absolute BEST! The 58th District Tournament delivered everything you could ask for and more. High intensity matchups, momentum swings, and players stepping up in the biggest moments as every team emptied the tank with a championship on the line.

The semifinals, hosted by Floyd Central, opened with Betsy Layne setting the tone early and never letting up. The Ladycats came out with purpose, locking in defensively and making every possession difficult in a commanding 62-40 win over Prestonsburg. From the opening tip, their energy was unmatched as they contested every shot, controlled the pace, and made it clear they were playing with something to prove. On the other side of the bracket, Lawrence County rose to the occasion in a high level battle, knocking off host Floyd Central 59-50. The Lady Bulldogs played with toughness and composure, stepping up in key moments to secure their spot in the championship.

That set up a high scoring championship clash between Lawrence County and Betsy Layne, and it did not disappoint. In a game filled with big plays and even bigger performances, Betsy Layne found a way to hold on late for a 94-85 victory, capturing their first district championship since the 2011-12 season. When the moment called for it, the Ladycats delivered across the board.

Senior [player_tooltip player_id='730457' first='Kinleigh' last='Martin'] led the charge with a dominant 25 point, 10 rebound performance, controlling the game on both ends and showing why she has been such a consistent force all season. As the team's leading scorer at 12.2 points per game and a reliable presence at the free throw line, she came through in one of the biggest moments of her career.

Senior [player_tooltip player_id='502283' first='Shyla' last='Kidd'] delivered one of her best performances of the season, pouring in 24 points while knocking down four shots from deep and going a perfect 10-10 from the free throw line. Her ability to stretch the floor and capitalize at the line made a huge difference, especially considering her efficiency all season long where she ranked among the team's best in both three point and free throw percentage.

Senior [player_tooltip player_id='885343' first='Jaden' last='Pente'] added another strong outing with 20 points and 5 rebounds, continuing her steady production. Averaging 10 points and 5.6 rebounds per game while leading the team in free throw percentage at 72.9%, she once again proved to be a reliable and composed contributor in a high pressure setting.

Junior Mady Collins chipped in 14 points, including nine made free throws, showing her poise and confidence when it mattered most. After leading the team in both three point percentage and total threes made during the season while averaging 10 points per game, her all around scoring ability was on full display.

Lawrence County may have come up short, but their performances in the championship were nothing short of impressive.

Senior Brooke Marcum put together a phenomenal performance, exploding for 35 points while shooting an incredible 72.2% from the field, 67% from beyond the arc, and 88% from the free throw line. As the team's leading scorer at 17.9 points per game and a major contributor on the glass, she delivered at an elite level on the biggest stage.

Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='973362' first='Jada' last='Patton'] added 20 points of her own, continuing her standout season where she averaged 16.6 points and 4.3 rebounds per game while leading the team in both free throw percentage and total makes.
