State Tournament Bound: Bartlett

Bartlett (27-10) is a state tournament qualifier for the 4th year in a row.    They defeated Clarksville on Saturday 67-29 in the sectional game at home. They will open the state tournament against Bearden (32-3) on Thursday at 11am.    Not only is this Bartlett's 4th year in a row qualifying. They have played in the State Championship game in the last 3 years finishing as Runner-Up each year.    Bartlett had one of the most grueling and testing pre-league schedule this season. Playing most of their games out of the state and against national competition. They even traveled to Arizona to participate in the Tournament of Champions event.    Bartlett is an experienced, deep squad with 7 seniors. Six of the seniors have already signed to play on the Division 1 and JUCO levels. They are also a unique squad. Not one play averages in double figures. The lone senior that has not signed yet actually leads the team in scoring with 8.3 points per game.     Scoring Guard and Leading Scorer. Not only does the senior guard lead Bartlett in scoring. She does it coming off the bench. She is the only senior that hasn't signed with a school. However, she did recently get an offer from #7 ranked Trinity Valley Community College. The high motor guard plays on both ends of the court. She is very conscience about the shots she take and a tough, disciplined defender.       Strong Scoring Forward. The Belmont signee is a powerful force in the paint. She is the team's second leading scorer and leading rebounder with 7.8 points and 5.8 rebounds. She can be double-teamed, triple-teamed, and fouled. The forward is going to play with the same locked-in, composed expression on her face. Defensively, she is also agile and versatile enough to contain in the full court and guard on the perimeter.       Long, Stretch Forward. The SEMO signee is a triple threat. She can score 1) in the paint and 2) stretch to the three point line. Defensively, she is going to 3) protect the paint with her length and shot blocking abilities. The senior is the third leading scorer and second in rebounds with 7.4 points and 4.2 rebounds per game.        The Floor General. As the junior point guard goes, so does Bartlett. She is the anchor to this squad. She leads the team in assists with 3.8. However, she is not only a distributing point guard. She can score. She can't be left open behind the 3 and loves to use her body at the basket for a bucket. She is 4th in scoring with 7.3 points per game. She is also a tough defender and leads the team in steals with 2.2 per game. After playing in an Atlanta tournament early in the season, she picked up her first division 1 offer from Old Dominion.        Lefty Shooter, Shooter. I didn't know if I was going to see this young lady play this season. Bartlett was the very first team I saw play in the pre-season. If I recall correctly, she was on crutches. When I finally saw the Dyersburg State signee, I was very impressed with her shooting abilities. Lefty shooters have the prettiest shot to me. I don't know why but they do and she is a lefty. The corner 3 is her shot. She is very confident with her shooting  and not limited to the corner. She is going to get her shot off in several ways. She is averaging 6.8 points per game.        Shooter, Shooter. From my understanding, Taylor did not play basketball last season. So how in the world can you miss a season of basketball and during a pre-season practice, pick up an offer from the #3 ranked and reigning JUCO National Champion, Northwest Florida State College? When you can come off the bench and shoot the way this young lady can, that's how! She is averaging 5.3 points per game.       Scrappy Defender. The sophomore guard has been a starter for quite some time. She is a hound defensively playing low to the floor with active hands and locked-in focus. In the regional championship game, she displayed what she can do offensively, scoring 6 points including a 3 pointer.
