14u Saturday Standouts (Battle in the Big Friendly)

Sunday, my assignment at the Battle of the Big Friendly had me covering the 14U division at The Hive. Many of these young players were first-time evaluations for me, so learning names while breaking down their games on the fly was a challenge. Below are brief evaluations based on what I saw, as I look forward to tracking their development moving forward.    Great size at 5'10 for an incoming freshman who has the versatility to play either the big guard or small forward position. An athletic player who excels going downhill and attacking the rim with purpose. She plays with a high energy, especially on the glass, where she scored multiple times on offensive putbacks.   Not sure on the exact measurement of her vertical, but she clearly has impressive bounce when making plays off the glass. In the game I watched, she was an effective high-post option for her team, showing good instincts and activity in that area.   Definitely a player to watch as she enters the high school ranks next season.     First time seeing this young lady play, and it didn't take long to understand why the opposing coach was yelling “shooter!” The combo guard knocked down several shots in a row and quickly grabbed my attention.   She showed good handles in the open floor helping her team handle the press. Defensively, she displayed solid lateral footwork, moving side-to-side to cut off driving angles.   Enjoyed watching this player to watch, and is a combo guard that I look forward to keeping up with in the future.     Great size for a combo guard who can handle the ball and embraces contact on both ends of the floor. A physical downhill driver who attacks the rim with purpose and has the ability to finish through contact for the old-fashioned three-point play.   She also showed the ability to knock down the three, keeping defenders honest and preventing them from sagging off. An aggressive rebounder who has the potential to put up double-double type numbers on a consistent basis.   Defensively, she brings versatility—capable of defending 20 feet from the basket while also being strong enough to bang in the paint.   An incoming freshman who will see major minutes next season at Tuttle.     An athletic, versatile guard with impressive length who played the 2–3 for [program_tooltip program_id='712936' first='Team' last='Oklahoma']. She shows solid footwork on her jumper. A smooth, consistent shooting mechanics that had nice form. Off the dribble, she used her long strides to get to the rim in just a couple of dribbles. Defensively, her length allows her to cover significant ground, making it difficult for ball handlers to turn the corner. A promising 2030 prospect to follow this upcoming season.     First time seeing this young lady, and a few key things immediately stood out. She was very active with her lower body on post-ups, consistently working for position instead of just standing with a hand up. She showed good hands, calling for the ball high and grabbing the catch. Once she caught it, she did a great job keeping the ball high throughout her move to the rim.   She ran the floor well in transition, catching passes and finishing without bringing the ball down. Defensively, she displayed discipline—walling up to contest without fouling and avoiding unnecessary jumps for blocks. Overall, a strong performance on both ends and a player worth keeping an eye on.     A smooth point guard who handled the l against pressure. She showed control with the ball, using changes of speed effectively to get by her defender and attack the rim. A crafty scorer, she was able to produce both off the dribble and with her jumper.   Around the basket, she displayed creativity and body control, finishing through traffic and avoiding shot blockers with nice moves.   Defensively, she was scrappy and active both on and off the ball, competing on every possession. She also contributed on the glass, mixing it up and securing rebounds despite her height among the Bigs.   This young guard 2031 stood out in the game I evaluated and is definitely a player worth further review on BallerTV for a more complete assessment.
