I'm excited to see [player_tooltip player_id='1740485' first='Lulu' last='Ulrich'] on the AAU floor this Spring with Lady Martin Bros AAU. Ulrich is coming off of a successful Winter season with CR Jefferson. Throughout the year this is someone who slowly became more and more confident. She saw more time on the floor as the season went on and she showed out as their best overall passing guard from the outside. She only came in second on her own team in Assists with 33 and she also demonstrated that she has a balanced offensive game as a scorer being able to convert at any offensive level needed. This is the future of the J-Hawks. I expect Ulrich to be back this Fall as a Junior with even more confidence as one of their starters, looking to make an impact as soon as the season gets started.

[player_tooltip player_id='1772124' first='Cassidy' last='Wollner'] had a limited role this past season for Ames at the 2/3 position because of their roster being Senior Class heavy. When Wollner did see the court, she made the most of it. Ultimately, she stuffed the stat sheet on both sides of the ball and showed her worth moving into this next school year. She scored it fairly well, she rebounded at a better rate than most others her size, and she defended admirably. I expect Wollner to see more playing time for the next two seasons with the Little Cyclones. As you could imagine, they are going to graduate a good chuck so there is going to be more opportunities for others to step up and take control. Others like Wollner.

Riley Sodahl is another who had her moments this past six months with Ames High School. Sodahl was playing behind some veteran Forwards over the past few seasons but now she is going to have her time to shine moving into this next year. Sodahl had a respectable year but she is definitely ready for a more steady work load as she gets to being an upperclassmen. At 5'10 and with balanced coordination and a soft touch, she can be used in a plethora of different ways within the Little Cyclones offense. If they can get her into space with her 1v1 matchups offensively, she is going to be able to string together some impressive performances as the year goes on.

Zupke was the motor, heart, and soul over the last couple of months for Sumner-Fredericksburg High School. She finished off her Sophomore year as the year's leader in PPG (14.8), RPG (6.1), and APG (2.9) while shooting 45.8% from the field as their starting PG. Production never lies. Zupke will return this Winter as one of the best 2A producers in the entire State if she works on sharpening her abilities during her off-season. This season was just the beginning of what could be a very special three year run at the Varsity level for Zupke. She just needs to lock in mentally and stay efficient. If she can do those two things, she is going to continue to thrive against her competition.

Rounding out this piece we have a player that solidified her starting position this Fall because of her work the last few months. Lance Ernzen of Linn-Mar High School came into the season as a 6'0 Sophomore and right away she demonstrated that she can hold her own in the middle of the lane by controlling it both physically and vocally. Ernzen was the third leading rebounder on her team, while primarily working inside-to-out on most of her action. Offensively she did step out to shoot the three ball for 1/3 of her offensive attempts so defenses have to defender her honestly but staying in-front with a hand up. With her height and strength, this is a hooper that takes opponent's attention. You have to know about her and talk about her on a scouting report. If not, she is going to have a record setting evening in a hurry. Ernzen should come back hungry this upcoming season. She was vital to her team's success recently and she will be even more important this upcoming season by the looks of it.
