When we do so, we go to X or Instagram and see all the posts people put out there highlighting accomplishments (or anything) that have been done recently. This, being almost like cards on a wall if they were handwritten, showcases the ability and success one has achieved. Sometimes, this single act can create a certain state among other athletes vying for the same opportunity.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This year's champions, UCLA and, I assume, others, preach mental toughness in conjunction with the physical aspects of the game. The game of basketball is 80% physical and 20% mental. We must train our minds, just as we train our bodies, so we can go out and read, make the necessary adjustments, and react accordingly to succeed. There are plenty of programs out there that work on the mental, but what I am trying to convey is that each student-athlete, especially those seeking to play at the next level, must run their own race, as no journey to the next level is the same.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This past weekend was the first NCAA Live Period for the women's game of basketball. All across our state, we had kids who experienced some type of success as they balled out. Some had tremendous games, putting up double-digit points. Some had great defensive games. Some got offers. Some got looks. The wide array of success is hard to define, but people experienced some kind of high. If you don't receive the type of success you wanted or even play well, it's ok. You can bounce back and be ready for the next time. You just have to take hold of the opportunity given because you never know who is watching. Your breakthrough may come at a time when you least expect. You just have to be ready for that moment.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>In saying all this, there were girls who battled on the floor this past weekend who took hold of the moment. They seized the day just as so many did. College coaches and scouts took notice of their style of play, production, and versatility. This kid showcased her skills by scoring, handling the rock, defending, and contributing on the boards. She brought home a couple of offers, as well as schools that were in attendance were in awe of her body of work. This kid is known as a difference-maker for the Lady Eagles program and always gives them an edge in games. She played with poise, had amazing court vision, and was a dead-eye shooter throughout the weekend. This kid has been grinding it out, and you can tell how much she has grown. When her team needed a bucket, she was ready to deliver it countless times. Coaches are taking notice of her game. She got a couple of offers and plenty of looks as she showcased her skills this past weekend. She is a bucket-getter who can score from all three levels and is a top-notch defender, creating tough scoring opportunities for her opponents. She had many impactful games this past weekend, showcasing her skills in front of coaches. Offensively, she has a nice bag of moves that enable her to finish around the rim or knock down a middy. Since coming onto the Tennessee scene, she has gotten stronger and more confident, becoming a disruptor who elevates her team. Look for her to not only continue to attract the eyes of collegiate coaches but also add layers to her game to make herself an even bigger prospect.
