When a player, coach or parent gets wind of their team's travel schedule, one of the first things said player, coach or parent looks for is if their team will be playing during a live period. The first live period of the 2026 grassroots season took place this past weekend.

One of the many get-togethers that occurred during said initial live period was just outside of Charlotte in Fort Mill and Rock Hill. The Queen City Showcase – hosted by Phenom Hoops – utilized a trio of venues throughout the area. One was Nation Ford HS – where the bulk of the girls games took place – along with the Rock Hill Sports and Event Cener and the Bleachery Field House.

Some of the more standout seventh graders in the area play for Carolina Queens Elite 13U and Hollifield is certainly among those standout 2031s. Hollifield is taller than her peer seventh graders and combines that with plenty of length. When an opposing player is at the free throw line, she is ready to box out in case of a missed free throw. That length will disrupt the passing lanes of many opposing teams and will also affect an opposing ball carrier's ability to attack the basket or attempt a shot from range. Hollifield can also corral her own offensive rebound in case of a missed shot.

Chapman recently played at Lake Lure Classical Academy and her game is already well-developed. That game is sure to become even moreso as her career continues to blossom. One look at Chapman may automatically assume she is more of a three or a four, but she is actually listed as a combo guard – and thrives as one. Chapman can effectively operate at the point and can find herself in plenty of iso situations. Her ability to rebound is certainly more indicative of a big or a power forward, then when one sees Chapman's ability to find driving lanes to the rim, one can see why she is predominantly in a team's backcourt.

Later in the afternoon, Palmetto Pride 14U may not have achieved the result it was in search of against Carolina Queens Elite 13U but McFadden provided the type of spirited effort indicative of someone who will thrive at the high school level. At times, guards that may be considered undersized can be the most difficult to guard especially if they have the skill level McFadden possesses. Defensively, she can make things difficult as she goes seemingly where the ball goes – even in the occasions of the quickest of passes between two teammates on the opposing team. McFadden is just getting started.

Childers is another of the 2031s who is already shining bright on this young Carolina Queens Elite team that will only shine brighter as she gains more experience playing against high school competition. She places plenty of emphasis on running the floor with efficiency as well as handling the ball to limit turnovers. Childers' court vision enables her to make accurate passes in the transition game and her high basketball IQ displays itself with her ability to make plays in the interior against the weak side of an opposing team's defense. A midrange jump shot is also part of Childers' game.
