This is Kentucky basketball at its absolute best, and the 54th District Tournament delivered all of it. High intensity from start to finish, big-time moments, and players stepping up when it mattered most. Every team battled, but only one could finish the job.

The semifinals, hosted at Memorial Gym, saw the Hazard Lady Bulldogs come out locked in and never look back, rolling past Buckhorn 67-36. Their defense set the tone early and never let up, contesting everything, forcing tough looks, and controlling the tempo from the opening tip. In the other semifinal, Leslie County made a loud statement in a thrilling 67-64 win over Perry County Central. The Lady Commodores executed at a high level, making key plays down the stretch to secure their spot in the championship.

That set the stage for a highly anticipated showdown, but it was all Hazard. The Lady Tigers took complete control, dominating their way to a 52-29 victory and securing their second straight district championship. It was a complete team performance on both ends of the floor and a clear reminder that Hazard remains the standard in the 54th District.

Here are some key players who led the way for Hazard to open postseason play:

[player_tooltip player_id='973205' first='Maddi' last='Frohnapfel']

The sophomore standout led the charge with 15 points, knocking down three big shots from beyond the arc while pulling down seven rebounds. Maddi has developed into a true go-to scorer, capable of creating her own shot off the dribble, stretching the floor with her perimeter shooting, and finishing through contact at the rim. What makes her even more dangerous is her motor. She impacts the game beyond scoring by crashing the glass, defending multiple positions, and playing with a confidence that shows in big moments. Finishing the season averaging 16.4 points and 6.7 rebounds per game, she has established herself as one of the premier young talents in the region and a major piece of Hazard's success.

[player_tooltip player_id='1228855' first='Braylynn' last='Eddington']

Braylynn turned in one of the most efficient performances of the night, scoring 14 points on a perfect shooting effort while adding seven rebounds. Her presence inside continues to be a major difference-maker, using her size, strength, and positioning to control the paint on both ends. Offensively, she plays with patience and touch around the rim, finishing through contact and making high-percentage plays. On the glass, she is relentless, consistently giving her team second-chance opportunities while limiting opponents to one shot. Averaging 8.6 points per game while shooting nearly 55% from the field and leading the team with nine rebounds per game, Braylynn brings a level of consistency and toughness that anchors Hazard's interior.

[player_tooltip player_id='747681' first='Laura' last='Everidge']

Laura contributed nine points and three rebounds, continuing to show why she is such a reliable and steady presence in Hazard's lineup. As the team's second-leading scorer at 10.5 points per game, she brings balance to the offense with her ability to score in a variety of ways, whether it is knocking down perimeter shots, attacking gaps, or making smart cuts off the ball. Beyond the scoring, Laura's understanding of the game stands out. She makes the right reads, moves well without the ball, and consistently puts herself in position to help her team succeed. Averaging 4.6 rebounds per game as well, she plays with a high IQ and composure that shows up in crucial moments.

Perry County Central also had some big-time performances in their opening-round win:

[player_tooltip player_id='1123097' first='Ryleigh' last='Feltner']

Ryleigh exploded for a game-high 22 points, putting her full scoring ability on display by attacking at all three levels. Whether it was knocking down shots from deep, pulling up in the midrange, or getting to the rim, she found ways to produce throughout the game. What stands out most is her confidence. She plays with a scorer's mentality and is not afraid of big moments. As a freshman, she has already taken on a major role, leading the team in three-pointers made while averaging 13.3 points per game and shooting 71% from the free throw line. Her skill set, combined with her poise, makes her one of the most promising young guards in the area.

The eighth grader made her presence felt with 15 points, including a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. Havyn plays with a calm confidence that is rare for her age, and her ability to space the floor immediately puts pressure on defenses. She consistently shows good shot selection and a smooth shooting stroke, especially from the perimeter where she led the team in three-point percentage. Averaging 4.8 points per game, she continues to grow into a bigger role and proved in this game that she can step up when the lights are bright.
