Maddi put together an outstanding sophomore season at Hazard, averaging 16.4 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.2 steals per game while earning All-State Honorable Mention honors. She has carried that momentum into the AAU season, continuing to perform at a high level against quality competition. Her impressive play has caught the eyes of college coaches, resulting in an NAIA offer from University of Pikeville and a Division I offer from Bellarmine University last month. Maddi’s recruitment continues to trend upward.

Maddi was one of the most talked-about players at the Cardinal Classic, which says a lot considering the level of talent in the building. In fact, I spoke with an ACC coach who came away very impressed with what she saw from the Hazard girl. She’s super savvy and has a very high basketball IQ. An outstanding pick-and-roll navigator who delivers pin-point passes, putting her teammates in perfect position to be successful. Maddi also shoots the three really well and brings a calming presence as a ball handler, rarely looking rushed or out of control. She picked up her first D1 offer from Bellarmine University and is a prospect on the rise in Kentucky’s class of 2028.

First of all it was nice to see someone having fun and playing loose with all the pressure that comes along with a live period event for these players. Maddi was calm and confident and played with a lot of swagger for good reason. She did an excellent job using deception to create space for herself with the ball on several occasions. One in particular, Maddi brought the ball do the left wing as per usual for a dribble drive offense and instead of the usual handoff, when she froze, rather than giving the ball up on a handoff, she continued to the baseline and easily slipping around the defender for a very nice left handed finish at the rim. On another play She got a few feet across half court before going into a dribble sequence that included an inside-out move before raising up and letting a shot go from five feet behind the three point line. Seconds later the ball barely moved the net as it went through the basket perfectly. Maddi has excellent size and the offensive skills to be a division one player in the next couple of years.

I was really impressed with Maddi at the Expo. She showcased a versatile offensive game, hitting a nice step-back three, finishing well from the block, and attacking the rim with strong drives and showed touch on a floater in the lane. She also displayed a reliable pull-up jumper, made smart reads off the pick-and-roll, and proved she can shoot efficiently from behind the arc. Maddi’s combination of scoring ability and basketball IQ makes her a matchup nightmare.

Maddi drained a corner three and showed she can knock down the deep ball with confidence. She handled the ball with poise, threading the needle with sharp passes and displaying excellent court vision. She also made a slick left-hand scoop layup that showcased her skill and creative finishing ability at the rim. A savvy guard with good size, a high basketball IQ, and a natural feel for the game.

Multi-faceted combo guard Maddi Frohnapfel Maddi Frohnapfel 5'10" | CG Hazard | 2028 State KY is averaging 16 points and 5 rebounds in 11 games played. She has several stat-stuffing performances, like 26 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals against Estill County along with 21 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists against Jackson County to name a few. Maddi is a special player and her ability to score, rebound, defend, and make plays for others will be key for the Lady Bulldogs entering the halfway point of their season.

Maddi Frohnapfel Maddi Frohnapfel 5'10" | CG Hazard | 2028 State KY completes the top ten of our initial 2028 rankings list in Kentucky. She impacts the game in a variety of ways and her basketball IQ is off the charts. Maddi averaged 12 points per contest for Hazard last season and had several games where she put up eye-opening numbers. I see her being higher on the list when it is all said and done.

Maddi has great positional size and plays with a level of basketball IQ that many girls in the camp don’t possess yet. Frohnapfel is a balanced scorer who is advanced as a playmaker and can be a good defender when she decides she wants to sit down and guard on the defensive end.

Maddi has good size for a combo guard and can impact the game in a multitude of ways. She can score, rebound, dish assists, and get after it on defense. I remember she had a big-time block in the game against Team 5. Maddi is poised for a strong freshman season at the Hazard. (Featured Image)
