Forget all the hoopla about 3-point shooters and whatever offensive scheme; if you don't have players who can't do those two things, you are in a world of trouble. Don't get me wrong, nowadays we love to see a good scoring game. But what if a defender steps out and shuts down that opposition? Call them what you will, lockdown defenders, defensive specialists, whatever. A few years ago, I loved how she made all the hustle plays: i.e., taking charges, 50/50 balls, diving for balls on the floor. It was something about the way she moved and how she wasn't going to back down to anyone on the floor. This past postseason tournament, she went through a gauntlet of teams to help her club win the state title. It was how she battled numerous highly touted players and reduced their ability to impact the game. Her offensive numbers have gone up due to her style of play. She is the one who loves to get up into someone and make them use all their counter moves as they try to get into an offense.
