'27 Class: Essential Guard Play

Don't get me wrong, having a big is great. Those sometimes can be few and far between for clubs, but having good guard play is essential. Someone to handle the ball, create off the dribble, handle pressure, make shots, distribute the ball, I mean, there are numerous things that are important a guard must do in order for her club to be successful. Bigs, they can establish the low post area, but they too have to benefit from good guard play to receive the ball and do their work. Having solid guards can make or break a team.   When I look at this ‘27 class, I see a good crop of guards who can make a difference. Kids who can get downhill, make the right read, and excel at whatever action they are trying to make. They are also kids who can gain the attention of opponents, that open up opportunities for others to exploit. If you look through this class (and the 28s as well), you will see superb guard play that can lead ballclubs deep into tournament contention. Colleges are starting to take notice, and so should we.   Here are just a few guards from the 27 class who are difference-makers.    Anyone who knows this kid knows she is a tough outing. The way she can manipulate a game is unreal. She's great in attack mode, can shoot from high % from 3, she's a game changer, and she brings that dawg mentality to the floor. She's tough on both ends, can play on or off ball, whatever the case may be, you better believe her presence alone makes coaches game plan for her. Look for her to pick up even more offers in the upcoming tournament. A great talent with a huge upside.     She's been mentioned a lot lately, and she is about to have a breakthrough. Her stock is high after deep tournament contention and her Miss Tennessee finalist run. She's had some great tournament showings lately and has done well against some highly touted girls. She's a kid who plays with poise, makes the right reads, and can score the basketball from multiple spots on the floor. She's a selfless leader who commands a club, giving them an edge. Look for her to get more opportunities to showcase her skills in front of collegiate coaches.     This kid is nothing but a game-changer. The way she plays ball mesmerizes coaches and makes them dream about what she can be at the next level. A Hailey Van Lith-type player, she can distribute the rock, but scoring is what she does best. She contributes to other statistical categories as well, but lighting the net on fire is her calling card. She has had some Power 4 interest as of late, and I expect more to come in these next tournaments.     She's not a PG, but more of a wing player, but having her on the floor makes a world of difference. A fearless leader who is willing to do the dirty work. Defense is one attribute that stands out when thinking about this young lady. She is probably one of the toughest players in the state. A kid who can guard on the perimeter as well as mix it up down low. KB is a mult-level scoring threat with a sensational motor. Look for her to continue on this trajectory and gain some traction amongst the collegiate ranks.     A heady floor general who is about to really break loose. She has had some D1 interest as of late, but it is really about to take off. A 3-level scoring threat who can run an offense efficiently. Has great handles, can create off the dribble, hit teammates so they can shoot in stride, her offensive capabilities are through the roof, and her team feeds off her presence on the floor. She can score it from all 3 levels and then turn around and contribute on the defensive end. Rebounds, steals, deflections, she is capable of doing it all. It's her time, and college coaches will be in attendance to get a long look at this special talent.
