Potential Rank Risers: 2028 Point Guards

There is always a chance to move up in the Prep Girls Hoops rankings. Here are five point guards in the class of 2028 who have the potential to do so with a good junior school season and a good summer in basketball.    [player_tooltip player_id='1240342' first='Molly' last='King'] was able to play an impactful role on her varsity squad at Independence High School in her sophomore season.   King at the PG position is a high-intensity player. She is not afraid to get aggressive and fight for rebounds and is constantly searching for an avenue to create steals. Throughout the season, her efforts in both of these areas paid dividends. She notably had multiple games with two or more steals.   Along with her effort, King's ability to read the movement of other players makes her a big steal threat. She is able to play closer up on her assignment on defense because of this, which leads them to make more mistakes.   On offense, King is a sharpshooter. She had multiple games with two or more makes from distance. She has a quick jumper and is good at relocating and getting these open perimeter shots, especially around screens.     [player_tooltip player_id='894697' first='Layla' last='Clark'] had a great sophomore season for Clarksville Academy.   One of the best parts of Clark's game is how effective she is when attacking downhill. Clark has a number of scoring moves she can go to around the basket. One example is that she can score off a euro step, and when she gets to the front of the rim, she is capable of scoring with her left or right hand. She also has a good touch floater that she can go to in her bag of offensive tricks.   Clark, in transition, is also a great passer. She does a good job at waiting for the best opportune time to strike her teammate in stride to get them the best look at an open shot.   Clark is also a high-level three-point shooter. She is more than comfortable in shooting off the dribble or catch. Her jumper has a noticeably high arc on it, helping her get more opportunities to get her perimeter shot off than the average high school PG.     [player_tooltip player_id='973364' first='Jordyn' last='Shemwell'] provided great perimeter defense all season long for Clarksville Christian High School in her sophomore season.   Shemwell does a great job at reading passing lanes. She had multiple games with three or more steals in her second school season, and her ability to read passing lanes was a big part of it. In a game against South Haven Christian School, Shemwell had six steals.   On offense, Shemwell is a great driver and scorer in transition. She also does a good job of getting her teammates involved. In a game against Attucks High School, she had five assists. Her vast offensive game continues with her ability to knock down 3-pointers.   With all the things Shemwell can already do on the court, her ceiling for what she can become as a player in her last two years of high school basketball is extremely high.     [player_tooltip player_id='1186531' first='Addison' last='Estes'] is definitely a player who could rise in the Prep Girls Hoops ranks in the future.   Estes is a scrappy defender. She has good foot speed and also has above-average hand-eye coordination in her defensive game. The following traits allow her to be a great on-ball defender.   She does a great job at limiting scoring paths to the basket for her defensive assignment, and he scrappiness on the ball can at times lead to steals. Against Okalnad High School, Estes had two on-ball steals.   Estes, on the offensive side of things, is a great 3-point shooter who particularly excels off catch-and-shoot actions.     Now rising junior [player_tooltip player_id='1045912' first='Aubree' last='Thompson'] has a trait that is not common at the high school level. That is the ability to show up in big moments.   Thompson showed she had the ability to show up in big moments during her high school team's run to a 4A state title. Throughout the tournament run and the entirety of her sophomore season, Thompson provided elite 3-point shooting. In the state title game against Cookeville, Thompson went 2-3 from behind the arc.   Along with her perimeter shooting, Thompson is a great creator off the dribble. She has high-level dribbling skills that can help her get open shots. She especially does well throwing defenders off balance with hesitation moves. Also, Thompson is a good scorer in and around the paint. She can score through contests down low and can make shots that have awkward angles.
