March basketball in Kentucky always brings a different level of energy. Rivalries get louder, crowds get bigger, and every possession feels like it matters just a little more. The 18th District Tournament at Caverna had all of that and more. Physical games, defensive battles, and championship intensity filled the week as teams fought for district supremacy and a chance to cut down the nets.

The tournament opened with Green County making an immediate statement. The Lady Dragons came out aggressive from the opening tip and rolled past Caverna 70-21. Green County's defensive pressure completely changed the game early, creating turnovers and easy transition opportunities while controlling the tempo from start to finish.

On the other side of the bracket, LaRue County battled its way past Hart County in a defensive showdown, earning a 35-26 victory. The Lady Hawks played with toughness and discipline all night long, locking in defensively and doing enough offensively to punch their ticket to the championship game.

That setup a highly anticipated district title matchup between Green County and LaRue County, and the Lady Dragons once again showed why they have become the standard in the 18th District. Green County captured a hard-earned 53-35 victory to secure its third straight district championship. The Lady Dragons used their experience, balance, and relentless defensive effort to slowly pull away as the game progressed. Coach Blaydes and Green County once again proved they know how to rise to the occasion when the stakes are highest.

Here are a few of the Lady Dragons who delivered big-time performances in the championship game and throughout the season.

Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='903184' first='Scout' last='Brockman'] put together another dominant performance with a huge double-double, finishing with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Brockman was a force every single night this season, attacking the glass, running the floor, and making winning plays whenever her team needed them most. Whether it was scoring in traffic, protecting the paint, or creating momentum with hustle plays, Scout consistently brought energy and toughness. She eclipsed the 1,000 mark in both career points and rebounds this season while also becoming the all-time leading rebounder in school history. Averaging 18 points and 10 rebounds per game as only a sophomore, she continues to prove she is one of the premier athletes and rising stars in the state of Kentucky.

Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='913668' first='Chloe' last='Fortner'] stuffed the stat sheet once again with 13 points and 5 rebounds while setting the tone defensively throughout the championship game. Fortner's ability to impact the game in so many different ways made her one of Green County's biggest difference-makers all season long. She handled the ball under pressure, created offense for teammates, and constantly disrupted opposing guards on the defensive end. Chloe averaged 11 points and 5.8 rebounds per game while leading the team in multiple categories. Her intensity, leadership, and versatility allowed her to shine in every phase of the game and made her one of the most complete players in the region.

Freshman [player_tooltip player_id='1245215' first='Isabella' last='Clopton'] continued her late-season breakout with 9 points, including two clutch three-pointers, while also grabbing 3 rebounds. Clopton finished the year playing with tremendous confidence and quickly became one of the Lady Dragons' most dangerous perimeter shooters. Her ability to stretch the floor gave Green County another offensive weapon, and her defensive activity created problems for opposing teams throughout the postseason. Isabella averaged 9 points per game, 2.1 rebounds and brought nonstop energy every time she stepped on the court. With the way she closed the season, her future looks incredibly bright.

Freshman [player_tooltip player_id='1598813' first='Brooklyn' last='Jewell'] added 5 points and once again showed why she became such an important piece of the Lady Dragons lineup. Jewell brought physicality, toughness, and grit every night while doing all the little things that help teams win championships. She attacked loose balls, defended aggressively, and stayed composed while handling pressure situations as a freshman guard. Brooklyn averaged 6 points and 3.3 rebounds per game while also doing an outstanding job taking care of the basketball and creating opportunities for teammates. Her fearless style of play and competitive attitude gave Green County a huge spark throughout the season.
