Sectional 8 once again looks loaded heading into the 2026-27 girls basketball season, featuring several programs with championship expectations, experienced returning cores, and plenty of motivation. While every team in the sectional has strengths, Westfield, Zionsville, and now Carmel enter the season as early favorites due to returning talent, rising young stars, and overall depth throughout their rosters.

Zionsville returns one of the better duos in the state with [player_tooltip player_id='579969' first='McKenzie' last='Chapman'] and [player_tooltip player_id='890889' first='Emily' last='Zack'], giving the Eagles proven leadership, scoring, and experience in high-pressure moments. Westfield also returns a strong nucleus that has many believing this could finally be the season the Shamrocks break through after more than a decade without a sectional title. Carmel adds another dangerous contender into the mix with the arrival of a highly talented 2030 guard who could immediately impact the program and bring excitement back to the Greyhounds.

At the same time, teams like Fishers, Hamilton Southeastern, and Noblesville will make sure nothing comes easy. Fishers has one of the most experienced upcoming senior classes in the state, Hamilton Southeastern enters as the two-time defending sectional champion, and Noblesville quietly has the pieces to become one of the biggest surprises in the area. Every night in Sectional 8 will feel like a postseason matchup.

Fishers Tigers

Fishers enters the season with one of the most battle-tested senior groups in Indiana. The Tigers' 2027 class has grown up together through winning at multiple levels, including a dominant freshman season and a highly successful JV run. That experience and chemistry should translate into a team capable of competing with anyone in the sectional.

Despite the talent that has come through the program, Fishers has not won a sectional championship since the 2022-23 season, which adds extra motivation to a group that believes it has unfinished business. The Tigers will rely heavily on their experience, toughness, and ability to play together in key moments.

Fishers has traditionally been known for its defensive intensity and ability to pressure opponents into mistakes. With so many experienced players returning, expect the Tigers to play with confidence and poise throughout the season. If they can consistently score in half-court situations, Fishers has the talent to make a serious run at the sectional crown once again.

Hamilton Southeastern Royals

Hamilton Southeastern enters the year as the defending power in Sectional 8 after winning back-to-back sectional championships. The Royals have built a reputation for playing disciplined basketball, competing at a high level defensively, and finding ways to win important games in March.

Even with roster turnover, HSE remains one of the toughest programs in the state because of its culture and expectations. The Royals understand what it takes to survive a difficult sectional and will once again be a team nobody wants to face when postseason play begins.

Hamilton Southeastern's biggest strength is often its balance. The Royals consistently have players willing to embrace roles, defend, and make winning plays. Their championship experience could become a major factor in close tournament games. While teams like Westfield, Carmel, and Zionsville may enter with more preseason attention, overlooking Hamilton Southeastern would be a major mistake considering what the Royals have accomplished over the last two seasons.

Zionsville Eagles

Zionsville enters the season as one of the clear favorites to win Sectional 8. The return of [player_tooltip player_id='579969' first='McKenzie' last='Chapman'] and [player_tooltip player_id='890889' first='Emily' last='Zack'] immediately gives the Eagles one of the strongest returning foundations in the state. Their ability to impact the game offensively and defensively makes Zionsville a dangerous matchup every night.

The Eagles have not won a sectional championship since the 2018-19 season, but this group has the talent and experience to end that drought. Chapman and Zack provide leadership, scoring, versatility, and composure in pressure situations, all of which are critical in postseason basketball.

What makes Zionsville especially dangerous is its ability to control the pace of games. The Eagles can defend at a high level, execute in the half court, and rely on experienced players in late-game situations. If their supporting cast continues to develop around their star core, Zionsville could not only contend for a sectional title but also become a team capable of making a deep postseason run.

Noblesville Millers

Noblesville may quietly be one of the more overlooked teams in Sectional 8 entering the season. The Millers have the potential to surprise people because of their toughness, competitiveness, and ability to stay under the radar while developing throughout the season.

After not winning the sectional during the 2023-24 season, Noblesville enters with plenty of motivation and a chance to prove it belongs among the top teams in the area. The Millers may not receive the same preseason attention as some other programs in the sectional, but they have the type of roster that can create problems for opponents.

Noblesville's success will likely come from team chemistry and defensive effort. If the Millers can consistently compete on the glass and limit turnovers, they could emerge as one of the tougher outs in the postseason. Teams that overlook Noblesville could quickly find themselves in a close game late.

Westfield Shamrocks

Westfield enters the 2026-27 season as one of the favorites to win Sectional 8. The Shamrocks return a strong core of players who have experience competing at a high level, and many believe this could finally be the year they break through.

The program has not won a sectional championship since the 2012-13 season, making this one of the longer droughts among the sectional contenders. That fact alone should provide extra motivation for a team that has the talent and depth to compete for a title.

Westfield's strength lies in its overall balance and experience. The Shamrocks have players capable of scoring, defending multiple positions, and handling pressure situations. Their ability to play together and trust one another could become a major advantage during tournament play.

Defensively, Westfield has the pieces to challenge some of the best offenses in the state, while offensively they have enough versatility to attack teams in multiple ways. Along with Zionsville and Carmel, the Shamrocks appear positioned as one of the top teams to beat in what should be one of Indiana's most competitive sectionals.

Carmel Greyhounds

Carmel enters the season as another serious contender in Sectional 8 and could quickly become one of the most dangerous teams in the field. The Greyhounds bring in a talented 2030 guard who already has people around the state talking about the future of the program.

That young addition, combined with Carmel's tradition and system, gives the Greyhounds plenty of upside heading into the season. Carmel has not won a sectional championship since the 2017-18 season, and the program will be motivated to return to the top of one of the toughest sectionals in Indiana.

The excitement surrounding the incoming freshman guard could bring a new energy to the team offensively, especially in transition and playmaking situations. Carmel's ability to blend young talent with experienced players will determine how quickly the Greyhounds can become a true title threat.

If the Greyhounds develop chemistry early in the season, they have the potential to challenge every top team in the sectional. Their athleticism, pace, and emerging talent make them one of the more intriguing teams to watch throughout the year.
