The recent Mid America Youth Basketball's (MAYB) first school team tournament of the month provided me an opportunity to see teams I do not get to see in person and get a preview of the season ahead at the smaller classifications. Teams from Oklahoma and Nebraska joined Kansas programs from across the state to form four groups: 3A/5A, 1A/2A Red, 1A/1B Black and 1A/3A JV. Below is a far from exhaustive look at some new and notable players I saw.

Kahle caught my attention with her solid frame and willingness to box out effectively. She ran well and the trust from her guards to grab entry passes in a crowd and fight through contact to score was noticeable. She works well within 12' of the basket on both ends but I would like to see her not get caught in the scrum trying to grab lofted entry passes that would be better completed if Kahle was freer of traffic.

Marshall showed the scoring ability she is known for but what I enjoyed seeing was her not taking over situations. She involved her teammates in the offense, enabling them to take chances making plays. She lofted entry passes accurately and drove well from the wing and high wing areas. Marshall also caught and finished well in transition. I would like to see her be more decisive and pick her positional spots better leading transition opportunities.

Odell is a slender forward with long arms who showed good bounce on interior shots. She transitioned well and noticeably competed for balls inside and altered shots. A prospect to watch in the coming years.

A prospect I am very familiar with Proctor has quality, lane-clogging size, length and athleticism. She showed solid footwork putting together multiple moves in the paint as well as defending on the move.

Skalsky's activeness, including working through and around the paint on the move, was very noticeable. A reliable scorer with three point range she also used her frame well defending within 12' of the hoop. One to watch in 1A D II in the upcoming year.

Uhner showed good speed and shiftiness with the ball as well as finishing ability with athleticism. What stood out to me the most is the steadiness and poise that a veteran guard should have. A integral part of the Blue Comet full-court defensive scheme due to her speed and quickness Uhner played in control, keeping her feet under her. She did not shoot well but, like the rest of her teammates, took quality mid-range and perimeter shots.
