The updated Prep Girls Hoops Rankings for New York 2027 prospects came out recently, and this is the biggest group from Section 2 yet. So many players from the region are ranked this time that I had to divide them into multiple segments. This is a crucial year for the juniors as they head into their senior year and prepare to make their college decision. Here is a look at how the next group favorite 2027 players from the section stack up against the state's best following a comprehensive analysis by our staff.

[player_tooltip player_id='863721' first='Hayden' last='Wolfe'] is a player who continues to rise in the rankings, currently sitting at No.41 for 2027 prospects in the state. Post players are few and far between in the Capital Region, so Wolfe's improvement attracts a lot of attention. I saw her play several times this winter, and she is just getting better. Wolfe is physically strong and a solid defender in the post. She is a very good shot blocker and a tireless rebounder. Wolfe has excellent footwork on the block. She has a variety of post moves and is a natural scorer. Wolfe has a very smooth shooting touch from 15 feet in. She can step out and shoot a 3-pointer when given the opportunity. I expect her to continue to excel.

[player_tooltip player_id='1814754' first='Addison' last='Thornton'] is the No. 46-ranked 2027 player in the state, and in my opinion, should be further up the chart. I have seen her in action multiple times during the season and in showcases, and she never fails to impress. Thornton is a prolific scorer, but can distribute the rock as well. Thornton is a dynamic offensive player who can score at all three levels. Thornton has a smooth shooting touch, whether beyond the arc or from the midrange. She has an outstanding jab-and-step back move that clears space for her jumper. She is ultra-proficient, getting to the bucket off the bounce and finishing. Thornton is an elite ball-handler who can pick apart defenses and dish to open teammates. She is a very good on-the-ball defender and rebounds well for a guard.

[player_tooltip player_id='1862030' first='Natalie' last='Birmingham'] is another talented player who is the textbook definition of the word "complete." She is the No. 48 prospect in the state. Birmingham is polished in every aspect of the game. Birmingham is a three-level scorer. She is a lethal 3-point shooter. Birmingham can beat defenders off the dribble and finish with either hand. She can pull up in the mid-range or use her collection of moves to create space from defenders. She moves extremely well without the ball. Birmingham runs the floor and finishes well in transition. She is a stellar on-the-ball defender and a very good passer.

She may play at the Class D level, but [player_tooltip player_id='1876701' first='Sophia' last='Ryan'] deserves every bit of recognition that she receives. Ryan is the No. 49 2027 prospect in the state. Ryan's ball-handling is elite. She knows how to use the bounce to probe defences and attack the lane at the correct time. She has fantastic court vision, creating scoring chances for her teammates. Ryan is an outstanding perimeter shooter with unlimited shooting range. She can also pull up off the dribble in the mid-range and knock down jumpers. Ryan is a solid defender as well. She was recently named a Player of the Game at a Gym Rat event, which speaks volumes.

Taniyah Montforte is the No. 7-ranked player in New York, but the No. 18 point guard. Montforte is a super-quick point guard. She is a superior ballhandler with the ability to get to the basket with ease. Montforte's footwork is elite. She is an outstanding defender with extremely swift hands that create multiple steals. When she has the ball in her possession, she uses her speed to pull away from defenders to score easy buckets. Montforte is tremendous off the dribble. Her first step is nearly unstoppable. She is a strong finisher in the lane and knows where to find her teammates to dish off the ball.
