This is the last article in my series on Section 2 players who are in our latest New York rankings. A very impressive group of prospects from the Capital Region/Upstate area is ranked. The largest group is from the Class of 2027. Here is a look at how the next group of 2027 players from Section 2 measure up against other players from around the state following a comprehensive analysis by our staff.

[player_tooltip player_id='863717' first='Reaghan' last='Hellen'] is the No. 71-ranked prospect in New York's 2027 class. I first saw Hellen play in the sectional Class B semifinals, and she was impressive. The strength of Hellen's game is her ability to get to the rack to score on layups and floaters. She is very good at drawing contact and getting to the foul line. Her explosive first step helps her blow by defenders and finish with authority. Hellen can also connect from behind the arc and from the midrange. Her long arms serve her well as an excellent defender. Hellen will take on a bigger role for her team next year, and I expect her to rise to the occasion.

I have watched [player_tooltip player_id='1276530' first='Addison' last='Whitbeck'] play multiple times over the last two seasons, and in my opinion, she is tremendously overlooked. Whitbeck is the 78th-ranked player in our Class of 2027. She is listed as a power forward, but she can play the 2 or 3 spots as well. Whitbeck is a three-level scorer who can put the ball in the hoop in a variety of ways. Whitbeck has a fantastic drop step move in the post. She can put the ball on the floor and drive past defenders. Whitbeck is a solid shooter. She can connect on shots around the lane, such as the elbow and foul line. Whitbeck can expand her range to the outer perimeter if left open. She is an effective defender and stellar rebounder.

[player_tooltip player_id='869602' first='Janae' last='Byrams'] is the No. 86 player among our 2027 prospects and is quickly on the rise. Byrams is a speedy point guard out of Albany High School. Byrams is a pure point guard with excellent court vision. She knows how to use the dribble to draw defenders, then makes the dish to her open teammates. Byrams has very quick feet and hands. She is an outstanding on-the-ball defender. She is excellent at driving to the basket to score, but can also step out and knock down 3-pointers. Byrams is the total package, who, in my opinion, will continue to fly up the rankings.

[player_tooltip player_id='1154047' first='Christina' last='Williams'] of Guilderland of Niskayuna jumps into our rankings of 2027 prospects, and she should be there to stay. Williams is a very good shooter from beyond the arc and can knock down shots from every angle. She is a highly skilled ballhandler. Williams is a multi-level scorer. Besides her outside shooting range, she can pull up in the midrange, drive to the rim, or score when she posts up smaller guards. Williams has the strength to overpower defenders. She was selected as a Suburban Council all-star even though her team struggled a bit this season. Given the depth of talent in the league, her game is clearly respected.

[player_tooltip player_id='1862020' first='Lily' last='Griesbach'] is sitting just out of the Top 100 in the rankings on our Watch List, but in my opinion, she should be in the upper echelon. She played a key role in Bethlehem's run to a sectional title and spot in the state championships. Griesbach is an explosive offensive player. She is an outstanding 3-point shooter. Her range is unlimited. Griesbach can connect from any spot beyond the arc, but is especially effective from the wing area. Griesbach is a very good ballhandler and passer. She can slice through defences to score in the paint. Griesbach is also a solid defender who anticipates when to jump into the passing lane to nab steals. She was an all-state honorable mention selection.
