Notes from Travis Diener’s 2030 Camp: Part Six

Last week, before the scholastic live period, I attended a three-day camp, put on by Travis Diener, that included around 70 talented incoming freshmen from Wisconsin. I spent most of the three days learning about some of the 2030s before they get to high school in the fall, and taking notes on most of the players there. I didn't end up getting notes on every player, but we will look at some of the players who stood out from the three-day event in Mequon and what they bring to the floor.    The future Sun Prairie West guard is the kind of guard who will elevate the players around her. Winzer is a vocal kid who has the respect of the people around her. You could tell who her teammates were outside of camp because they were always together, and Winzer has noticeable leadership qualities. I also liked how willing she was to do all the things that won't show up on box scores, like crashing the glass and boxing out. The more she leans into who she is as a player over the next four years, the better her Sun Prairie West team will be.     The Platteville native probably stands at about 6-1, and was an impressive young forward. Richards has the size that draws attention to her wherever she plays. However, I thought she had a strong build and moved well for her size. I also thought she saw the floor well and showed some flashes as a passer that were more than just a flash; there's something to that. I'll also be interested in her fit alongside a player like the Hillmen's rising senior post.     Porter immediately jumps out athletically when you watch her play. The future Waunakee Warrior flies around the floor, and she plays hard on both ends of the floor. Her motor will allow her to make extra-effort plays, and for a team looking to get over the hump, Porter could be a difference maker in that sense. She also shot the snot out of the ball, and while watching her on the first day of camp, I could even hear Dwayne Wade talking about how well she can shoot. Porter was always ready to shoot it and was impressive as a perimeter shooter.     The future Wisconsin Lutheran wing is a kid who comes from a basketball family, and you tell her she's a high-IQ player. Langebartels sees the floor well and can read the game quickly. She's an excellent perimeter shooter. Even though she didn't shoot it her best in the moments I watched her, she does have 40% or better upside as a perimeter shooter. She's also more than a perimeter shooter and is comfortable finishing around the basket with both hands, and has the size and frame to play through contact when she gets downhill. Wisconsin Lutheran has a talented roster from top to bottom, and I'll be interested to see what type of role Langbartels can carve out in year one.
