Building The Perfect Post Player

A few months ago one of our writers on the men's side of things, Eliot Clough, created an article about building the perfect PG prospect.   In this piece he took the best attributes of a number of different players and added them all together to make the "perfect" prospect. In this piece I will attempt to do the same thing but with Post Players on the women's side.   Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!    Rebounding   Eden Horn may have been a Freshman last Winter for St. Edmond High School but she surely didn't play like it. Horn comes into this conversation as the state's best overall rebounding threat with her mixture of size and ambition. Last season she registered just under 15 RPG while helping her team to an overall record of 17-6. To think this is only the beginning for Horn's career is eye-opening. She is only going to get better within this game with the more experience she has under her belt so I can't wait to see what she will be able to do as an upperclassmen in a few years.     Footwork   Most people aren't familiar with Deidra Doeden's game-style but it's college level in a few different aspects. Doeden is elite when it comes to her footwork near the bucket. She needs very little space and timing to convert on either side of the rim and that happens because of how she sets up her opponents with her footwork while stepping into the possession. She is calculated like not many others we have seen at this level and when you pair that with her natural size - that leads to production in the boatloads whenever she is competing.     Finishing   There is no way we can speak on this topic and leave off Sira Doumbia of CR - Washington High School and Missouri Phenom 17U Iowa. Doumbia, the 6'3 Center, LOVES physicality. So much so that she basically welcomes it in the middle of the lane and because of that she is really good at finishing through contact or whenever she is double/triple teamed. If you go back and look at the stats from last season across Iowa, Doumbia has the highest FG percentage (63%) out of ANY prospect throughout the state. No matter age or Class level. That speaks to what she can really do when she is motivated. Doumbia is going to end up being a D1 player. Where to? That is still TBD.     Shot Blocker   Taylor Evans of Prince of Peace Catholic High School was the state's best shot-blocker last season as a Sophomore. Throughout her team's 22 contests Evans recorded 156 Blocks in total. To give you an idea, the next highest # in this category was 112 but someone else that happens to be listed above. As you can tell, Evans understands where her opponent is going to look to shoot the ball in the lane and she knows how to alter that shot attempt in one way or another. She also averaged 10 PPG and 13 RPG, making her the closest player throughout the state of Iowa to almost averaging a triple-double stat-line throughout her entire season. That would be quite the accomplishment and something we have never seen before out of a prospect from this state at the high school level.     Athleticism   Logan Vogt might be pound-for-pound the most athletic high school prospects in the state of Iowa on either the men's or women's side. Not only does she have natural height at 6'1, the way she moves down the floor within her strides stands out to anyone watching. She covers ground QUICKLY and she isn't a slouch when it comes to the X's and O's of the game. If you ever get past your initial matchup and into the teeth of the defense you better know where Vogt is at all times. If not, it's going to end in a block party. I'm sure this is someone that will end up playing P4 Volleyball at the next level but if not, there would be several college coaches out there looking to use her services once she graduates the high school ranks.
