Mitten Summer Showdown: Beyond the Arc

The LBI Mitten Summer Showdown featured plenty of players who made defenses pay from the perimeter. Throughout the one-day event at The Cage and Grand Blanc High School, these shooters consistently knocked down shots from beyond the arc, forcing opponents to extend their defense and opening up opportunities for their teammates. Whether it was hitting timely catch-and-shoot threes, pulling up off the dribble, or delivering big shots in key moments, these players showcased the shooting ability that every coach values in today's game.    Claire, a guard for the Mystics-Evan, showcased her ability to stretch the floor at the Mitten Summer Showdown by confidently knocking down multiple three-pointers. Her shooting forced defenders to respect her range, creating added spacing for her team's offense. On the defensive end, Claire used her length to her advantage, getting her hands on passes, creating deflections, and coming away with steals. Her combination of perimeter shooting and disruptive defense made her an impactful two-way guard throughout the event.     Inaaya, a guard for Michigan Crossover, made a terrific first impression at the Mitten Summer Showdown. She caught my attention with her ability to shoot the basketball, knocking down multiple three-pointers, including back-to-back corner threes that gave her team a huge spark and shifted the momentum of the game. Inaaya has a smooth, repeatable shooting stroke and gets her shot off quickly, giving defenders very little time to contest. Her confidence, shooting touch, and ability to deliver timely perimeter scoring made her one of the standout shooters I watched throughout the event.     Ava, a guard for Michigan Heat, put on a shooting display at the Mitten Summer Showdown, seemingly knocking down everything she put up from beyond the arc. She buried multiple three-pointers in the game I watched, including back-to-back makes from the wing that helped ignite her team's offense. Her confidence and quick release made her a constant threat from the perimeter. Ava also made an impact on the defensive end, applying relentless ball pressure and making life difficult for opposing guards. Her ability to stretch the floor while competing with intensity on defense made her one of the top perimeter performers at the event.     Evia, a guard for Michigan Heat, provided one of the most exciting moments at the Mitten Summer Showdown with her ability to create space and knock down shots from deep. She put a defender on skates with a crafty move, then calmly stepped back and buried a three-pointer that energized her team and brought the crowd into the game. Evia continued to heat up from beyond the arc, adding at least three more triples in the same contest to showcase her shooting ability and confidence. Her shot-making, creativity, and ability to deliver momentum-changing plays made her one of the most entertaining perimeter scorers at the event.     Taylor, a guard for the Mystics, once again showed why she is one of the most dangerous shooters on the floor at the Mitten Summer Showdown. She has a reputation for putting on a shooting clinic, and this event was no different as she knocked down three three-pointers in the game I watched, with several coming from well beyond the arc. Taylor also showed she is more than just a shooter, displaying a smooth pull-up jumper and the ability to create opportunities for her teammates. Her drive-and-kick game forced defenders to respect her ability to attack, while her perimeter shooting made her a constant threat. Taylor's scoring ability, shot-making range, and playmaking skills made her one of the standout guards of the event.       Emma, a guard for Lakeside, showcased a unique combination of size and skill at the Mitten Summer Showdown. A six-foot guard with the ability to impact the game in multiple ways, she created matchup problems for opposing defenses. Emma knocked down multiple three-pointers in the game I watched, showing she can stretch the floor, while also attacking the basket and finishing through contact. Her length was a factor on both ends of the floor, as she rebounded well and used her reach defensively to create deflections and disrupt passing lanes. Her size, versatility, and ability to contribute in several areas made her one of the more intriguing guards at the event.
