I stopped to watch local high school teams play at the Ursuline College team shootout this past week. I was pleasantly surprised by the talent that was playing there. I would like you to know about a few of the players that I saw. Below are a few players that stood out!

Queen of the Day

Marissa was Queen of the ball, so to speak. She was the best player at the shootout. Her athleticism and skill were above all of the other players there. She made open jump shots from mid-range, and from the land of 3! She was quick in transition, whether off the break or from a turnover. Defensively, she blocked shots, rebounded, and stole the ball constantly against the opposition. I look forward to watching Marissa play more in the future.

Long and Athletic

Sydney has changed schools and changed the way she plays. She is a lot more aggressive and attacks the rim and doesn't settle for the first open shot. Sydney's skill of getting to the rim places pressure on the opposing team's defense. Against her opponent, Sydney is learning to use her physical tools better with every game. Her talent may be a reawakening for Beaumont basketball.

Aggressive is the Word of the Day

Shaniya plays very aggressive type of basketball. Defensively, she plays within her opposition bubble. This constant pressure makes her opponent feel uncomfortable to play the way they are used to. Offensively, Shaniya stays in attack mode. She plays downhill with the utmost belief in herself that she will make something positive happen for her team. Shaniya is definitely fun to watch pay every day.

Next on the block is a true big girl. Faith is learning how to play the game and her position. Becoming a good post player takes a lot of hard work and discipline. Everyone enjoys seeing the best part of the journey, when the player shows the reward of a long time of work. Faith is what it looks like at the beginning of the journey. You can tell that she is putting in the work because the foundation of good players looks the same. Hard work, dedication, and long hours. Faith, keep up the good work.

She's an All-Star

Probably the best unknown star in the area. Fae scores while being continuously double- and triple-teamed. Her ability to break down the defense to create shots for herself and others is at an elite level. Fae has a non-stop motor that allows her to constantly apply athletic pressure on both sides of the game. She is definitely a scholarship player at the next level!
