2028s Summer Stock Report: Part 1

The summer provided another look at Virginia's Class of 2028 as prospects competed and continued developing their games. With junior seasons approaching, several players showed growth, versatility, and the ability to make an impact in different ways. Here are 5 players whose performances gave me plenty to evaluate heading into the 2026-2027 school year.    Creed utilizes her size and physicality well on both ends, making herself available in the post and establishing position to attack and finish through defenders. She is effective as a screener, rolling into space and using her body to shield defenders, while also running the floor well in transition and opening herself up for passes around the rim. Defensively, she protects the paint with her shot-blocking ability but also shows the mobility to defend on the perimeter, stay with ball handlers and contest plays as they attack the lane.     Peterson plays with confidence in the open floor, capable of handling the ball coast to coast and using her speed to get ahead of defenders for finishes at the rim. She moves well without the ball, finds gaps in the defense and stays composed around the basket, keeping her focus on the finish even with defenders closing in. Defensively, she brings good awareness and effort in the press, trapping effectively before recovering into the half court and staying engaged with the ball.     Morton is an active, scrappy guard who impacts both ends of the floor, using her quick hands defensively to create turnovers and get her team out in transition. She moves well without the ball, finds open space and cuts effectively, while also showing the ability to knock down the corner three or put the ball on the floor and attack gaps. She is aggressive going to the basket and makes strong takes, handling the ball in transition and staying under control through contact to finish at the rim.     Nicholson is a sharpshooter who spaces the floor well, finding open spots on the perimeter and showing the ability to knock down threes off the catch from multiple areas. She is also a shifty ball handler who reads the floor well, creates with her crossover and changes of direction, and can get physical attacking the basket while maintaining her dribble to locate open teammates. She impacts the defensive end as well, guarding the ball with pressure and anticipation, disrupting drives and jumping passing lanes to create immediate scoring opportunities.     Jones is a confident three-level scorer who reads the floor well and takes what the defense gives her, whether that means knocking down an open three or attacking a lane to the basket. She is dangerous from the perimeter with a quick release, but can also create off the dribble, change pace and use her footwork to generate space. She doesn't force anything, showing patience and good decision-making as she reads defenders, attacks openings and finds teammates when the help creates an opportunity for an open shooter.
