The small forward position. Sometimes best described as the other wing. These people who play this position may not get the props they deserve. Within this particular position, you have that 3-and-D type of kid. But there is more to it than just that. These kids can do a multitude of things to help their ball club. Scoring. Crash the boards. Defend. They can do a lot of interchangeable things that stand out. Score both inside and out. My point is this: to the naked eye, they score, but someone who is ingrained in the game knows they do a whole lot more.

I love the small forward position because they can be mismatches. They are good enough to handle the rock, exploit the painted area, knock down the mid-range, and, of course, shoot the three-ball. Defensively, they always seem to do the dirty things like take charges. As I mentioned earlier, their contribution is off the chart, and that's the reason why I personally value this particular position.

In this state, especially the ‘27 class, we have some girls who excel at this position. Sometimes they may be overlooked, but what they truly do is help their ballclubs run. They are the glue kids. The ones that get stuff done on both ends. Check out a few of the top ‘27s that rep the small forward position.

Great size on the wing; this kid can get after it on both ends of the floor. One who can exploit the mid-range, she can cut to get open and pop a shot, or take someone off the dribble and attack. She can dial it up from the perimeter and also bully someone on the low blocks. Has solid court vision where she can distribute the rock and then swiftly move towards the basket for a backdoor lay. Has great length where she gets both steals and blocks. Colleges are calling, and she will look to commit somewhere soon. Until then, you better believe she is in the lab and ready to attack this upcoming season.

A kid who has risen above adversity, her style of play is pivotal to the success of her club. She can do a multitude of things, but ultimately she is a 3-level scoring threat. She can play faced up or with her back to the basket; scoring the rock on the interior is her bread and butter. She has added an outside game to her arsenal, given her size, and if you try and overplay her, she has the handles and foot speed to take it to the hoop. She's solid on the boards and can start breaks. Look for her to commit somewhere soon and help her CPA club make a run at state contention.

She's a bucket. A kid who plays with poise and such a motor. She can do all things on the floor, but one thing for sure is that she is going to score double digits. A three-level scoring threat, she is going to find a way to impact the game. She's a heady ballplayer that gets after it on both ends. No matter the opponent, she's going to cause fits and leave a lasting impression. This kid gets results, and ever since her freshman year, she has been giving her district problems. Look for her to continue on that trajectory and capture the eyes of collegiate coaches as well.

She's a ballplayer. Someone who plays with a lot of energy. A leader whom others follow, she sets the tone for her ballclub. She's a bruiser, one who can pound it inside, exploit the mid-range, and also knock down the 3. She can handle the rock to get into favorable positions, but ultimately, what she does is elevate those around her. She's a solid defender, one who is going to cause havoc on the defensive side of the ball. Look for her to have a stellar senior season and commit to a school looking for a ballplayer who is going to come in and compete right away.

A tough competitor who causes problems. Ever since she stepped foot on campus, this kid has impacted the club in many ways. Her game has grown over the years, and it has gone from being a role player to the focal point. This kid competes, and she is going to do whatever it takes to win a ballgame. She's a motor-up kid, so attacking downhill is her thing. Mid-range, low blocks, it's go time when she has the rock in her hands. Add in her ability to defend and control the boards, and she's a solid all-around prospect terrorizing the Jackson area. Look for her to have a solid school ball season and add her name to the list of prospects from Tennessee playing at the next level.
