FL Freshman Showcase: Team 2 Assessment

The PGH Florida Freshman Showcase brought nearly 90 of the top young players from across Florida together Sunday at Seminole Sports Academy in Longwood. The four-hour event featured players from the Panhandle to South Florida competing against one another while learning from eight college coaches representing the D2, NAIA, and JUCO levels.   The morning started with 3v3 action to get players warmed up before moving into 5v5 competition. With a very strong group of freshmen in the gym, the showcase provided an early look at players who could make an impact at the high school level and beyond. Here is some analysis on Team 2 I covered with some length and versatility in their identity:    Erin showed good footwork around the basket with a nice spin move to create separation on multiple occasions in the paint. She battled hard for rebounds and used her frame well to compete on the glass. She also came up with an offensive rebound and putback while showing the ability to finish with her either hand. Erin's frame and athleticism make her one of the top post prospects in the state for this 2030 class.     Tonya used her length to make an impact on both ends of the floor throughout the showcase. She finished through contact for an and-one and showed good timing defensively with a blocked shot. Her size and length give her tools to be disruptive around the basket, and she had a real chance to be a serious prospect in this class as she continues stacking the days.     Brynlee was one of the more noticeable perimeter shooters on the floor during the Freshman Showcase. She knocked down back-to-back threes and consistently showed the range to stretch the defense. She also connected from the corner, brought the ball up the floor herself, and contributed defensively with a blocked shot. Her combination of length and shooting ability gives her incredible versatility on the perimeter.     Micaela showed good strength and footwork when attacking the basket throughout the event. She used a spin move into a left-handed shot and drew contact for a foul. Her frame allows her to handle physical play while she also showed the ability to finish with her either hand in transition.     Brooklyn displayed good ball-handling ability and looked comfortable creating off the dribble. She attacked the baseline and showed good awareness by delivering a bounce pass to an open teammate when the defense collapsed. Her ability to create while keeping her eyes up stood out in the time I saw her compete.     Adriana showed a solid offensive skill set with a good handle and the ability to get into the lane. She used a floater effectively to finish over defenders and stayed active on the glass by coming up with offensive rebounds. Her ability to create off the bounce as well as shoot it adds another dimension to her game.     Amiya played an unselfish game and showed good vision as a passer. She made a nice read to find a cutter for an open look rather than forcing her own offense. Despite her smaller stature, she showed an understanding of how to create opportunities for her teammates.     Maddie immediately made her presence felt on the glass by grabbing a rebound on her first possession after checking in. She used her frame well to set strong screens and ripped away multiple rebounds in traffic. Despite her position, she showed the ability to put the ball on the deck and attack space. She also drew contact around the rim and earned trips to the free throw line because of it.     Natalia has a strong base and showed a physical presence throughout her minutes. She communicated well defensively and made a nice roll to the rim after setting a screen on the offensive end. She also showed good awareness on the glass by grabbing a rebound and quickly finding the point guard with an outlet pass to start the break.
