Grand Valley Elite Camp Team MVPs

Grand Valley hosted another outstanding Elite Camp yesterday evening, drawing a tremendous turnout as players from across the state came to learn from the back-to-back national champions. The camp was well organized from start to finish, with the coaching staff explaining each drill before Grand Valley's players demonstrated the skills and techniques, giving campers a clear example before putting them into action. The evening also featured competitive 5-on-5 games, with the campers divided into six teams coached by Grand Valley players. After the camp concluded, I asked each of the college players to name the MVP from their team based on the effort, competitiveness, and overall performance they saw throughout the night. Their selections were well deserved, and after watching the camp myself, I couldn't agree more with their picks.    OJ earned Team 1 MVP honors from Grand Valley players Kaia and Kenzie after putting together a complete performance throughout the evening. During the 5-on-5 games, she consistently made winning plays on both ends of the floor. Defensively, OJ anticipated passes well, jumped the passing lanes, and turned one steal into a coast-to-coast finish. On the offensive end, she showed her scoring versatility by knocking down mid-range jumpers, connecting from beyond the arc, and finishing through contact at the rim. She also displayed her court vision with a terrific pass in transition that led to an easy scoring opportunity. OJ's all-around game, competitiveness, and ability to impact the action in multiple ways made her a deserving choice for Team 1 MVP.     Haylie was selected as Team 2 MVP by Grand Valley players Graycin and Madi after showcasing a well-rounded game throughout the evening. She made an impact on both ends of the floor during the 5-on-5 games, consistently making smart plays with the basketball and competing defensively. Haylie knocked down shots from beyond the arc, handled the ball with confidence, and used her shiftiness to create opportunities for herself and her teammates. Defensively, she stayed active with good hands, disrupted plays, and showed the ability to guard her position effectively. Combined with her strong decision-making and poise, Haylie proved to be a deserving choice for Team 2 MVP.     Zaya earned Team 3 MVP honors from Grand Valley players Destiny and Emersen after putting together an impressive all-around performance during the evening's 5-on-5 games. She used her shifty ball handling and quick first step to get downhill and attack the basket, while also showing the ability to knock down shots from beyond the arc. Zaya's athleticism was on full display as she rebounded well for her position and came up with multiple blocks on the defensive end. Her ability to impact the game in so many different ways, combined with her energy and competitiveness, made her a deserving selection as Team 3 MVP.     Jayna was selected as Team 4 MVP by Grand Valley players Clare and Kelly after leading her team to an undefeated record during the 5-on-5 games. Her relentless motor and competitive nature stood out every time she stepped on the floor. Jayna consistently attacked downhill with strength, handled the ball well, and created scoring opportunities for both herself and her teammates. She was a force on the glass, especially on the offensive end, where her energy and aggressiveness led to numerous second-chance opportunities. Defensively, she protected the rim with multiple blocks, while offensively she mixed in mid-range jumpers to keep defenders honest. In her team's closest game of the night, Jayna delivered the biggest moment by knocking down a buzzer-beating three-pointer to secure the victory. Her all-around production and winning plays made her a well-deserved Team 4 MVP.     Gabby earned Team 5 MVP honors from Grand Valley players Avery and Maya after consistently making her presence felt in the paint throughout the 5-on-5 games. A dominant post player, she used her strength and physicality to establish deep position by sealing defenders and making herself a reliable target around the basket. Gabby displayed soft hands, polished footwork, and the ability to finish through contact, making her difficult to contain once she caught the ball inside. She also controlled the glass on both ends of the floor, creating extra possessions with her rebounding. Her steady production and interior presence made her a deserving selection as Team 5 MVP.     Alexandria was selected as Team 6 MVP by Grand Valley players Anayya and Lauren after showcasing a versatile skill set throughout the 5-on-5 games. Although she's listed as a forward, she frequently took on point guard responsibilities and looked comfortable running the offense. Alexandria handled the ball with confidence, used a quick first step to get downhill, and never shied away from attacking through contact in the lane. She also did a great job creating scoring opportunities for her teammates with her vision and decision-making. Her versatility, toughness, and ability to impact the game in multiple roles made her a deserving choice for Team 6 MVP.
