HER Skills Summit: 2028 Standouts

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. — The 2nd annual Hoops By Ugland HER Skills Summit took place Sunday at the new Griffin Center on the campus of Los Alamitos high school. The skill development and competition-based camp drew 78 high school girls prospects from the classes of 2027-2033 and those prospects received hands' on coaching from high level high school and college coaches. Below we take a closer look at the 2028 prospects who stood out.    Canizal brought a ton of energy to the event and her combination of high motor, physicality and an inside-out scoring arsenal led to her being an efficient offensive threat. Canizal was at her best when getting downhill to her right hand and finishing around the rim through contact. The 5-foot-8 wing was also comfortable knocking down open three-point shots off the catch.     Perry showed tremendous feel for the game as both a scorer and creator for teammates. The 5-foot-7 point guard used her crafty ball-handling ability to break down defenders and get into the lane where she scored with a floater or kicked the ball out to an open teammate. Good shot selection and decision-making were the hallmarks of Perry's performance at the camp as she allowed the game to come to her and knocked down open shots within the flow of her team's offense.       Mix is a dynamic combo guard who leaned into her scoring ability throughout the event. At 5-feet-6 with a strong frame and good burst off the dribble, Mix was able to get by her defender with speed or strength and into the lane where she stayed on balance and scored through contact. Mix brought a hard-nosed approach to the defensive end and her blend of lateral speed, quick hands and strength led to her pressuring, containing and disrupting the opponents' offense and helped her turn defense into offense. Mix also showed her touch to the three-point line with a couple of left-bounce triples.     Bishop was a dominant interior presence who also showed flashes of her perimeter touch and ball handling ability. The 6-foot-2 forward was nearly automatic when she got a touch inside where she used her strong hand and off-hand touch, along with her fundamental footwork and ability to seal off deep post position to get a high percentage look at the rim. Bishop stepped out to the three-point line and hit smooth perimeter shots off the catch, initiated offense from the top of the key and was a beast on the defensive and offensive boards.     Poialii-Hunkin was a do-it-all presence on the offense end as her combination of positional size, strength, fluid athleticism and all-around skill allowed her to score in a variety of ways. The 6-foot guard/wing was at her best in transition where she used her physical and athletic tools to absorb and finish through contact in the lane or side-step defenders for finesse buckets with touch. Poialii-Hunkin was also effective as an off-ball mover, cutter and slasher where she used her crafty footwork, shot fakes and step through moves to keep defenders off-balance. The Corona Centennial junior was also effective in spot-up situations from three-point range.
