Little Kanawha Conference Freshmen Preview I

The Little Kanawha Conference may be the most talented small conference in West Virginia. Last season alone, the LKC placed a combined 12 girls on the West Virginia Sports Writers' Association's Class AA and A all-state first and second teams. While none of those players were freshmen, here are a few newcomers league coaches believe are ready to burst onto the scene and turn some heads:    Stead is a high-ceiling player with an above-average basketball IQ, who can be a problem in multiple ways on the basketball court. She is a quick pass-first point guard who sees the floor at a senior level with fantastic court vision. She can shoot the ball at all three levels. She will be an invaluable piece for the Yellowjackets to pencil in next to all-state senior point guard [player_tooltip player_id='728692' first='Quinn' last='Bunch']. She will greatly benefit from the tutelage by Bunch.     Daggett is a multi-positional post player capable of playing three through five. She has unbelievable footwork for her age, which has allowed her to develop advanced post moves. She can score in all three phases on the court. She will create plenty of mismatches with her size and mobility down on the block. It is not a stretch to say she may make the all-conference team during her first season in the league.     Atha is a transition-friendly, pass-first, ambidextrous point guard capable of quickly pushing the ball up the floor. She sees passing lanes before her older teammates. She's consistent with her deliveries. Despite her size, she can create her own shot. She cuts to the dish and moves well without the ball. She will excel in a five-out offense.     Wirt County head coach Jeremy Kerby is excited for the arrival of Rommage to the Wirt County Tigers' girls' basketball team. She has a bright future as a potential point forward. She is a Swiss-army knife on the court. She can create her own shot, thanks to a deceptively quick first step. She is a ball hawk on the boards. She can shoot the 3 ball of screens. Coaches won't have to worry about her work ethic. She shoots 300 3s, 200 2s, and runs a mile daily.       Moore may be beginning her high school career, but Tyler Consolidated head coach Scott Wall has plenty of positive things to say about "one of the better post players he has had during his time as coach. Moore soaks in basketball information like a sponge. She's extremely coachable. She has great footwork that will cause problems in the post on both offense and defense. Kanz shows the right tools to develop into a strong combo guard. She is a pass-first point guard who allows team leaders to lead, as she runs the offense from the point guard position. She is working on scoring from all three levels. Her high basketball IQ points at big things to come from Kanz as she progresses through her high-school career.
